Great location in old Bagan. Spacious room and a riverside restaurant with spectacular sunset view! The room is very spacious. But the bathroom needs to be repaired. The towels are worn and frayed. It was very cold during the night (end Dec)

Everything about our stay at Bagan Hotel River View was excellent-- from the views, to the staff, to the pool, to our room and small patio. We were able to rent e-bikes from the hotel and bike around the pagodas, which was lovely. The thoughtfulness that went in to each and every detail of this hotel made our 2-day stay not at all long enough. Would highly recommend to anyone going through Bagan.

Amazing grounds and location
Amazing place! Beautiful grounds and location right on the river are the best part. Helpful staff with adequate English ability, excellent breakfast. Close to several restaurants and e-bike rental. Rooms need updating, which explains the lower room rates vs nearby hotels, but above features compensate for this.

We have to thank all the staff because they’re incredible and the property is amazing. Haven said that. The room was awful, the worst room I’ve been to. It is pricey compared to the other hotels in town, and it is not the hotel fault, it is on Expedia. I tried to contact them and We never could, we had to change hotels, even if we already paid more nights. This is the last time I trust in Expedia, they’re no objective and they don’t check the properties and if they do, they don’t care about the travelers because if they did they would post some of the photos of the rooms, I have quiet few.

This is a gorgeous property... more of a garden on the banks of the Irrawaddy than a mere "hotel"... even had two ancient pagodas nestled in among the trees. There was a spacious deck area that was perfect for watching the sun set over the river. My room was comfortable, and somewhat rustic with a wooden sort of decor... I really liked it... the bathroom could use some sprucing up but I am a traveler not a tourist, and I find that sort of thing of little consequence. I highly recommend this property, and I know that I will certainly stay here again.

Great location, lovely grounds, below average room
Amazing location, right next to Gawdawpalin, one of the main temples in Bagan. Lovely grounds and the riverside bar is great for sunset drinks. The room was spacious and bed was comfortable.Sound proofing (as with most hotels in Myanmar) was very poor. The bed was at the furthest point from the door but we could still hear every conversation had at the corridor & room doors being shut. The toilet was by far the worse we came across during our trip. It was small and mould & rust was everywhere, including the showerheads. For the price we paid, I think we expected a slightly higher level of maintenance being given to the toilet. Also, the hotel could try to look into incorporating a more sustainable way of providing drinking water to its guests e.g. leaving glass bottles in rooms and having water dispensers around the property for people to refill their bottles for use.

Amazing view, average rooms.Old blankets.
I will start with the positive aspects of my review. I had stayed river front view with balcony and the view is breathtaking. The room I had stayed was 1204, directly below of Presidential Suite 1 and 2. Tourists in Bagan are usually tempted by sunrise tour but if you book the room for full moon or fuller moon nights, please don't do sunrise tour. The moon will set directly across the river which gives you spectacular moon reflection on the famous Irrawaddy river which you can enjoy by simply waking up by 5am and not going out for sunrise sightseeing. I can assure you, you will be amazed the serenity of moon before it setting over the mountains, the other side of the river. The hotel has two authentic, well maintained old pagodas inside the compound which are located next to the breakfast area. Basically you are having breakfast next to ancient pagodas, right in front of the river which is mesmerising. Now here comes the bad... Towels are well past the used by date. The blankets and sheets are yellowish. Bathtub and toilet need to be renewed. Breakfast is below average with not much choices. My verdict, I'd use the hotel again just for the spectacular of the site but I wish management upgrade the amenities.

This is an amazing hotel in the archaeological zone of Bagan, which was designated by UNESCO as a world heritage. No new hotels are allowed to be built in the zone any more. There are two temples in the hotel’s garden, dated back to 11th and 12th centuries. The museum and some other temples are within walking distance. The river view is tranquil, and is the best place to watch the sunset. I think the hotel did not do sufficient advertisement to highlight its uniqueness. Furthermore, I was sick during my stay, and the staff took excellent care of me. I left as a healthy person.

Great garden, river view and location. Must see!
Garden with own temples and river view are fantastic and the winning propositions here. We just loved it! Room was however too dark and staff, although extremely polite, didn’t speak enough English which at times created some confusion..

Little paradise
I will have to split this review is 3. 1. Location is just exeptional! You are surrounded by temples already , and they have x2 in their own grounds. Old Bagan is just spectacular - we used tuk tuk to explore (as i was nearly 8months pregnant and didnt want to go on electric bike , we also against animal abuse , and making poor horses to go around temples in a heat of C30+ isnt something i would recommend). Just outside hotel there are planty tuk tuk , taxi and bike rental service. Downside there isnt many restaurants near by and hotel is rather expensive (avarage $10 per person for a dinner). 2. They Riverside restaurants offers most amazing sunset view of the river - stunning place , and food is really good, however rather pricy - but this was our luxury treat for a south asian tour. 3. Room - hmmm... has everything you need, but definately needs upgrading , walls needs repainting, bathroom rather old and towels clean , but a bit off colour. Perhaps not the best , but this shouldnt put you off as at the end yopu wont spend much time in the room. Hotel surroundings are just amazing and many lovely areas to relax, beautiful swimming pool and great little escape. If not for a room itself i would give 4stars to hotel itself.

Great location, but glad to be home
Overall first impression was 'interesting', as the hotel is modelled somewhat on the Bagan historical buildings. They did check us in before 10am which was great. Staff very friendly and the location in old Bagan was good, although there's nothing close by. 2 ancient pagodas in the garden and a river view (the reason for staying) were positive. I had booked the River View room (extra) which was almost in a bunker In the room it was disappointing. Not well maintained, bed too soft, no headboard just bricks, sheets off white (dirty white), and hand towels were, quite honestly, almost grey not white with blue bath towels. Shower curtains for the over bath shower were another unfortunate element as I hate these sticking to me as I shower!! Wifi was very poor and we were woken at 5am both mornings with river boats chugging past, well before the alarm for planned pre-sunrise departure times. Breakfast was basic and presented badly and the a-la-cartel menu food was simple but passable. Of the 6 or 7 bottles on the wine list for each red/white only 2 were available, but the Myanmar beer was very cold!! It's the first time in a while I have seen restaurant staff handling food without gloves. On returning home it was a somewhat welcome relief, and that's not how it should feel after a hotel stay.

Beautiful grounds.
The riverside location of the hotel is divine. The garden setting is equally delightful by day or night. The hotel even has two lovely temples right there in their garden. However, the bar and restaurant staff were not very friendly and seemed to resent having to serve us. A little smile would go a long way in making people feel welcome. Our room was lovely and the beautiful river front view was a highlight. I loved sitting on our little balcony looking at the view and wished we had another day so we could do just that.

Bad stay if not for river view saving the day
Bad experience. Food is terrible. Tom Yam soup with too much turmeric powder is never tasted and heard of. Not much attention is given at the restaurant to Asian* guests. If not for the river view and general ambience among ancient ruins, I’d totally rate this 1 star

River view in Old Bagan
The hotel is ok— very dark room and no view from room. Thin walls and easy to hear people outside and next door. Cleanliness was just ok. The upsides are definitely the location on the river and in Old Bagan.

Nice hotel but unknowledable staff.
The hotel and grounds were fantastic!!! There were a few problems: 1. Staff was not knowledgeable. They said certain pagodas were closed when they were open. They told us a restaurant we wanted to dine at was close. It wasn't. Then they tried to push us to one of their suggested restaurants, which made us feel they rather make a commission than do what their guests desired. 2. We paid extra for a nice room. It had a wonderful view of the river, but every morning it smelled like sewage.

Great location but hotel a bit tired
The location was superb and we had a great room (710). At sunset the sun was directly in line with our room. The pool area was very good. The staff were great but the hotel is starting to get a bit weary and definitely needs some investment. The biggest disappointment was the food. Breakfast was pretty basic. We only ate an evening meal on the first night as I was sick for 24 hours after it. We started to go to the Thande hotel next door for meals after that. It looked like everybody else did as well. You are very isolated at this location but it is perfect for visiting the main Pagodas.

Quiet and isolated
Quiet, isolated hotel. Good service. Room was comfortable, clean, and large. However, I could never get wifi in my room, only the common areas. Restaurant by the river was pleasant. There are even a few temples on the grounds. Convenient for the temples (especially if you want to see the sunrise) but nothing much nearby. You can rent a scooter for day across the street but be sure to let them know if you're returning late.

We really loved our stay here and would have loved to stay longer. Our room which was a villa had the most spectacular views as did the hotels terrace bar and restaurant. Having a stupa and temple in the grounds made this hotel so memorable. You can hire bikes from outside the hotel to get around Began.

Isolated hotel - nothing nearby at night
Booked this as it was located in Old Bagan. I was there for New Years Eve - as they were preparing for a New Years Eve party - USD110 to attend - it meant that we couldn't get food that evening. Nothing nearby at night time, shops or nightlife, so I had to take 15,000 kyat return taxi to New Bagan so I could eat. I wouldn't mind but at USD200 for the nights stay over New Year's Eve - it would have been great if they had made provisions so the guests who didn't want to attend the party could eat. A simple sandwich would have done. Staff were as helpful as much as they could be. Pretty central for the temples and Pagodas if you're cycling. E-bikes available for hire outside the hotel - prices rising all the time. You're are at the mercy of the two bike/E-bikes rental firms located straight outside as they can dictate prices however they like - you're a good distance away from anywhere else where you can hire a bike. 8,000 kyat for a day's rental up to 31 Dec 2016. On 1 Jan 2017 the price went up to 10,000 kyat per day (It's 5,000 kyat per day in New Bagan). I guess it's "Supply and Demand" as all bikes were rented out at the higher 10,000 kyat/day rate - all gone by 1pm. 1st room we were in was slightly dated (room 102) - the 2nd room was better. The 2 wicker chairs they have in the room aren't very comfortable - a sofa instead would have been great - as there's not much to do at night apart from read and maybe watch TV.

Luxury by the river
On arriving at the airport each tourist is required to pay 25,000K as admission fees to all the historical sites except the palace. A taxi fare of 6,000K will get you to the hotel in about 10 minutes. It is also a good time to hire the driver and the taxi to take you around all the sites. However, Bagan is so flat with very little traffic it is just as easy to cycle around. The hotel is situated on the river next to the museum. It consists of blocks of units set in large gardens with a bar/restaurant on a balcony overlooking the river. The rooms are large, comfortable, well serviced, clean with all amenities. "Hot" breakfasts are served cold but otherwise the restaurant is quite good but rather overpriced. Good tasty food is available from street restaurants at very reasonable rates. Don't miss sunset from atop the Pagoda.
