Northwest Wyoming Travel Guide

Tourist Guide
Tower Fall
Discover the wild, adventurous spirit of the American West while exploring frontier towns, national parks, ski resorts and wildlife reserves.

Northwest Wyoming is famous for its dazzling landscapes and Wild West roots. Experience the majesty of the region’s two national parks via hikes, bike rides and road trips. Spot fascinating wildlife and participate in thrilling outdoor sports. Visit towns with strong cowboy traditions and a community of thriving Native Americans.

Begin your Northwest Wyoming vacation in Jackson, an affluent town that lures everyone from celebrities to cowboys, skiers and hikers. Browse exhibits at the Brookover Gallery, Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum and National Museum of Wildlife Art. Go bar-hopping between the saloons set around Jackson Town Square. Ride by winter sleigh through the National Elk Refuge.

Three ski resorts surround Jackson, offering summer and winter activities. Within the city is Snow King Mountain Resort. Grand Targhee Resort sits on the western slopes of the Teton Range. The Bridger Gondola and Jackson Hole Aerial Tram offer entertainment for all at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Be awestruck by free-roaming bears, glacial lakes, snow-capped mountains and sweeping valleys in Grand Teton National Park. Hike to Cascade Canyon from the shores of Jenny Lake. Rent boats at Colter Bay Marina to cruise across Jackson Lake and join ranger tours at Colter Bay Visitor Center. Snap postcard-worthy photos of Mount Moran at Oxbow Bend and drive the Grand Teton Scenic Loop Drive.

The untamed beauty of Yellowstone National Park occupies the region’s northwestern corner. See major landmarks including the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, Norris Geyser Basin and Upper Yellowstone Falls. Visit the Fort Yellowstone and Mammoth Hot Springs Historic District. Canyon Village and West Thumb are tourist-friendly gateways to the park.

Cody showcases its Wild West heritage at boisterous bars, ghost-town ruins, museums and rodeos. Glimpse the life of the Eastern Shoshone and Northern Arapaho people at Wind River Indian Reservation, east of Jackson.

Reach Northwest Wyoming by flying to Jackson Hole Airport or Yellowstone Regional Airport. Expect cold, snow-covered winters and mild summers, perfect for sleeping beneath the stars at lakeside campsites.
