Everything was excellent, from caring staff, property condition and food. Please note that there is no lift, but they take your bags up and down (2-4 floors). Free coffee/tea in their cafe/bar. Onsen was also very good. Room was spacious and we were allowed an early check-in. Highly recommended if you are visiting Chuzengi. Take care driving up the winding road during winter.
Couldn’t recommend this place enough. The most outstanding staff & service. Everyone was friendly and accommodating to all of our needs. And the view of the lake was obviously beautiful.
The hotel manager was extremely friendly and so were the other staff. Hotel room was spacious, toilet was nice, Onsen was natural with a weird smell though, and the food that they served was fabulous. I stayed 2 nights and was served different meals for dinner, the second night sukiyaki was really good.
Best hotel we stayed at in the three weeks we were in Japan! Absolutely delicious breakfast and dinner. Honestly, the dinner was some of the best Japanese food we had all trip. The sunset at the lake was breathtaking. We will be back. Thank you to the wonderful staff!
Special mention to Kimio-san, who was extremely friendly and helpful and spoke good English! Gave my main review earlier as this is my second booking that didn’t come with breakfast and dinner

Highly recommend
Comfortable, wonderful Japanese style breakfast and amazing dinner provided. Staff is kind, courteous and helpful for local recommendations. Older accommodations, but very well maintained and very clean. Western beds very comfortable. No elevator but easy access to stairs. Staff will surely help with luggage if needed!
Wonderful place to stay in the Nikko area. This is a small hotel of 15 rooms overlooking lake Chuzenji. You either make a bus from Nikko station or a have a car to drive up the mountain. There are lots of walks to do in this area and the Kegon waterfall is very impressive.
The rooms are spacious and was in the western style. The staff were incredibly friendly and nothing was a hassle. We had breakfast and dinner included which I would recommend. The breakfast had a variety of both western and eastern dishes. The dinners were in the kaiseki style and were fabulous. With beautiful fresh ingredients. They also inquire as to any food allergies and cater the meal to that. Could not ask for a better place to stay.

This felt like a family-owned inn (not sure if it is) and the staff were absolutely wonderful. We did the included breakfast and dinner, and the dinners were among the best meals we had during our entire 12-day trip in Japan! This is an older hotel, but you are paying for the location -- absolutely gorgeous on Lake Chuzenji! Okunikko is tiny and I'd recommend doing dinner at the hotel since much of the little town closes in the evenings, once the day trippers head out. I would recommend this hotel to people who like an inn/bed and breakfast sort of smaller establishment. It was a bit outdated, but that didn't bother us.
This is a magical place to stay. After a warm welcome we were guided to our room the onsen is a perfect way to unwind and start your relaxing and renewing stay. If you’re looking for a traditional experience, the dinner will be something you’ll always remember. The breakfast buffet is also a lovely mix of Japanese and western options. All this and a just across the street is the lake. If you want to get away from the hustle, it’s the perfect place to reset after a day of sightseeing.
A nice hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The breakfast was a good spread of food and had two times to choose from. I forgot to sign up for dinner which had signups close around 1600, and food is scarce around the area so make sure you have a plan for dinner when staying here. The hotel is very close to the lake, a few shrines and the waterfalls. Overall the location was great. I did not try the onsen the hotel offered but the bathtub in the room was very nice.
I had a wonderful stay at the hotel, where I was warmly welcomed by friendly staff is fluent in English. They thoroughly explained the breakfast and dinner hours, offering a delightful four-course dinner menu that changed during my two-night stay. The food was delicious, with staff providing insightful introductions to each dish. The hotel features both indoor and outdoor onsen experiences, welcoming guests with tattoos. My room was spacious, featuring full-height windows that offered stunning views of Lake Chuzenji. Overall, it was an exceptional experience that I would highly recommend.
Artfully presented many course meals made our stay extra special. The onsen is clean and was so nice to go in after adventuring in the snow. Thank you for your warm hospitality!
Enjoyed two nights at Hatago Nagomi, easily accessible via bus from Nikko's train stations. The ryokan has beautiful views of Lake Chuzenji. The staff were friendly and attentive, spoke excellent English, and went out of their way to take care of our group. Highly recommend the kaiseki dinner option.
