Hotel Hell

The hotel is on an open area warehouse type and does not have airconditioning in that area it is very hot out in the lobby and throughout. There were numerous fights that broke out from the locals staying in the hotel. Prostitues frequent and drug deals are the norm. Could not get a good night's rest for travel the next morning. Very disappointed

A dangerous dump!

The day that I made the reservations the hotel had a woman murdered on-site. Two days later when we travelled to New Orleans for the Essence Festival my family encountered a large sign that read "CLOSED by the Board of Health".

Needs ALOT of Improvement

The hotel was nasty. The door to our room did not seal shut. You could stick your fingers through the crack. The bathroom was not very clean and the beds were not comfortable at all. The only thing that was nice about the hole thing was the lobby. It was also kinda far to walk to the river.

Don't Stay Here!!!

This was little more than a likely low class weekly rental slop house. The pics were misleading and I was very dissappointed and will never stay here again.

It was suffiicant

The paneling was coming off of the door to the bathroom. I couldn't get the hot water to work. The huge neon sax on the wall was really cool but i wish all the lights had worked. It would have looked much better. Overall it was a place with an air conditioner, a clean bed and a lock on the door.

i was willing to try this hotel because of the photos they've included but having been there in person, the hotel looks nothing and i mean NOTHING like those pics... the place is seriously a halfway house with cops in and out of the hotel throughout the days for i imagine drugs and drug dealers, maybe even worse... do not stay here if you want a minimal of comfort, cleanliness

Traveler from Alabama recommends this Hotel

My family and I stayed for three nights. We did not have any problems. Rooms 429 and 430 were in great shape. They were clean as were the sheets. The "free" coffee consisted of enough for one. But the staff at the desk gave more as needed. Forget the continental breakfast. The pool was open and CLEAN. So was the pool area. As with most motel/hotels, there were loud people at night but not all hours of the night. We had only intended to stay in New Orleans two nights but had such a good time we stayed the extra night. My family, including two Grandson's had a good time. TV's had wireless remotes and plenty of channels, including 3 HBO. Street Cars do pass in front of the property but you have to go a couple of blocks to catch it. The cab fare from the Amtrak station was 16 dollars for the seven of us. You can order take out but for security reasons, the staff requested we come to the lobby to pick it up. All in all a good experience. The staff appeared to be really trying to repair any bad images. The property did not appear run down at all. There were no homeless people lying around the hallways either. The hallways were hot due to not being air conditioned but the air conditioners in our rooms would freeze you out. It is like anything in big cities, you must be aware of your surroundings at all times. It was that way every where we went. New Orleans has made amazing progress from what happened during Katrina. We will definitely go back again.

I advice others not to use this hotel at all

Very hard to stay in this hotel from all the points. Full of insects, cokaraches, noise. Staff not respect the gusts and they are just looking for profit.

What was I thinking??

The Canal Street Hotel is relatively close to everything in the heart of New Orleans, but it is not very appealing. There is a sign that says it is under construction, but there is no work going on. They have signs for a laundry and a pool, the laundry doesn't exist and the pool is empty and covered in graffiti. Some of the seediest looking people live there and they hang out in the lobby, all over the furniture, literally, hanging all over the furniture. It was worth all that I paid for the room. It was a place to sleep, there was no refrigerator or microwave in the room and if you asked for one, someone had to go and look in different rooms to try to find you one. Needless to say, I never got one. I needed a refrigerator for my medication and had to use ice in a bucket daily. Overall, it was an adventure, but next time I go to New Orleans, I can't be so cheap. They have a hotel facade but it is really a motel. You have to pay to park and if you don't have a paper sign in your car, they will toe it, but there was a car on blocks the whole time that I was there and it never moved. I was moved three times, the first room had a shattered toilet seat lid and there were footprints all over the walls, the second one had a shower that didn't work, the water wouldn't even turn on.

Find Another IMMEDIATELY

Mold all throughout the room. The bottom of the tub was black. Prostitutes were outside the hotel door, and chased my boyfriend down the hall trying to "get his business" Someone was shot outside the hotel our first night there, Dominoes wouldn't deliver after dark because of the dangerous neighborhood it was in. Literally there were crack dealers down the hall from our room. And the room looks absolutely nothing like the pictures. Please DO NOT come here none of the above is an exaggeration. This was all real, we changed hotels immediately! DO NOT BRING YOUR FAMILY HERE!!!!!

PROSTITUTION HOTEL!!STAY AWAY FROM!

When we arrived to the hotel there was fire department and police personell. We were not given the rooom we were promised, which was a queen bed insetead i was given a smoking room with a twin bed. Going up to the room I was followed by two men who in my opinion were looking for trouble. Once arrived at my room I was apaulled that there was a room with prostitutes next door! All night the dook kept on opening and slamming, yelling and screaming for money fights etc. I was to nervous to draw any attention to myself so I did not sleep all night the room kept on being entering until 7:00 the following morning. This is not a hotel I recomend to anyone! Once I left I ran into some firemen and asked them about the hotel, they commented that they get calls there all the time for over doses assults and see the prostitutes.

Needs Major Improvement

If you plan on visiting New Orleans any time soon with your family or friends. Please stay far away from the Canal Street Hotel. The staff we observed to be very rude. The hotel ran completley out of towels. There were roaches and bugs in the room amongst many other things. This is more of a motel.

The morning staff was great, the evening staff needs more training. There was a mix up in my room, they gave my room to some one else and I was in it!! Thank God I had the bar across the door!!

GREAT DEAL!!

I was a little worried about staying here after I had read some of the other reviews, but I was extremely surprised when we arrived. This hotel is a great deal!! It is located right on the trolley line with a car stop just across the street. The room was clean and nice and cool. Other reviews reported that the hallways leading to the rooms were hot and this was true but the room was always comfy! There was another review that said the elevators smelled of urine.... NOT TRUE! The front desk employees were very nice and helpful. The French Quarter is about six blocks away. All in all this was wonderful experience and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a good place to stay and not go broke doing it!Hopefully we will be staying here again in September.

Do Not Stay at this HOTEL

The air conditions for the rooms are on the inside of the hotel causing the inside of the hotel to be unbarably HOT. The room was cool. The TV remote did not work. I was supposed to have a queen size bed. When I saw the standard double bed I called the front desk. They told me this is what they consider a Queen bed. and if was not enough I could upgrade to a KING. The bathroom shower had no water pressure. The tiles in the bathroom were broken and falling apart. The walls were nasty and black, very unclean. They were supposed to have a pool on the third floor... no one could find it! This hotel is supposed to be under construction. However all we could see was that they are painting over the dirty walls. Also, the bathroom window is so close to the interstate that it stays very loud in the room.
