The Diplomat was cheap and convenient. We knew it was a motel and had motel expectations, but we were surprised to see the common area in our room (101) to be so big. I would have liked it if there was a cooling system or air conditioning unit in the bedrooms, but we were patient and let Mother Nature cool off our room as the sun went down. All in all, it was a one-night stay and it was surprisingly good for motel standards! No complaints!

Management cuts too many corners...
When I dropped a pen and it rolled under the bed I went to retrieve it and noticed a few pieces of trash, one of them was a receipt from a fast food restaurant from six months ago and there was quite a bit of dust as well. I also noticed the room next door that had a couple children with were very loud and they kept us up almost the entire night. On our last night we had to wait until almost noon before there was hot water to take a shower, so all in all they have some work to do...

It was an okay area of Nanaimo. But there is a lot of homeless people around. They were harmless. Other than that rooms were good, clean, staff was very helpful.

I enjoyed the room, most of the staff was pleasant. The owner/manager cancelled my booking in the afternoon, proceeded to phone after 10pm asking if I were showing up. I showed up and again refused my stay without explanation

It’s great property central however at night the area felt unsafe with homeless shelter a block away . The owners were kind . Poor wifi and tv no working remotes . The electrical panel was in our main room and there was a hole in the wall shower curtain smelled . But we were only there to sleep so met our needs .

Diplomat Motel is the best I see in Nanaimo so kind and lovely staff and everything was really good

The rooms were musty smelling. There was no green area for pets. The flooring was inexpensive laminate flooring, dangerous to my older dog who had great difficulty getting up.

A Friendly Greeting at Check In with the option of room service or no. We opted for no (put garbage out/ask for towels) 'relaxed room" for more time out. When we asked owner for extra blankets, he got them, plus showed us where the thermostat was. Had to borrow a plunger, he volunteered, I opted to do it, he made sure it fixed. He cared to ask how we were doing, if we needed anything, every day. That to me is exceptional, we were treated like "guests" sincerely. Great View. Quiet. Clean. Microwave/Frig worked. 2 TV's one in each room. when door closed rooms soundproof from each other. We had a ground floor room and never heard a peep from upstairs either. ALL IN ALL IF THIS HOTEL WERE A CHAIN, I'D BE STAYING THERE EVERY TIME I TRAVELLED! **Service above expectations, treated like a 'real' guest**
