We stayed in one of their standard rooms which was cosy and beautifully clean. We had a candlelit dinner on the terrace and breakfast the next day, the food was excellent. We also made use of their pool area which was very serene. I would also like to mention that their staff were very friendly and helpful. All in all we had a lovely stay.

Beautiful French Countryside Experience
An authentic French countryside experience. Not the Ritz but incredibly comfortable and special. If you are okay with a few economies - older towels, for example - you will enjoy your stay. The property is beautiful and special, the staff could not be kinder, the food in the restaurant is traditional French-chic, the breakfast is massive. I would go back in a minute. If you want to see the Dordogne, be near Bergerac, play a little country golf, taste wine - this is a great spot. We visited in chilly February and it was still spectacular. Recommended without any reservations.

Charming hotel and beautiful interior and design. Relaxing and smart modern furnishings and kind and helpful staff who speak English and are very knowledgeable. Beautiful grounds with golf course and great golfing tuition. Would thoroughly recommend for a relaxing stay. We booked for one night and stayed for four nights!

A perfect place to stay.
This hotel is just so good, the buildings and interiors are beautiful, the staff so very helpful and friendly. The food is excellent and I cannot think of anything bad to say about it. It is just a great place to relax and enjoy being in France.

Very disappointing
Room was very sparse and poorly furnished. Lighting was poor. There were no proper bedside tables and no desk or dressing table. There was very little space in both the bedroom and bathroom to put anything down. There was one very cheap towel rail suitable for one towel only, which was loose on the wall. The bedroom door did not lock from the inside, and it was necessary to but on a very flimsy chain. No air conditioning..

Great experience!
We liked the setting. Great experience and good location to explore the Dordogne region. The restaurant is nice, but food could be better - also overpriced. Would stay again.

Gorgeous hotel with great staff
I loved this place. Certainly one of the most welcoming hotels I haver stayed at. Staff are kind and helpful but not intrusive. Excellent food. Will definitely be back.

Good base for visiting Perigord
A very pleasant stay. Comfortable room, excellent restaurant that I would go back to even if not staying at the hotel (and not expensive!), very pleasant staff who were all english speaking for those of you who struggle with your high school french.Unfortunately it rained the two days we were there, but the pool area looked nice. Highly recommended.

A beautiful hotel for a special stay
I chose this hotel as part of celebrations for my husband's special birthday, and it proved ideal. Beautiful old building round a courtyard, lovely ambience, superb food and wine in front of a roaring fire. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and make guests feel totally at home. The location is great for exploring the surrounding region by car, as there's free and ample parking and the hotel isn't far off the main road.

Fabulous spot to visit
It was fabulous very relaxing and enjoyable and understated. The restaurant was fabulous and the setting amazing with candelabra and candles lit at night. The staff were friendly obliging and engaging. We loved it. The pool area was also great

Nice Chateau close to Bergerac and the Airport
A fantastic Hotel with very helpful and accommodating staff who all spoke English to a good level. The hotel restaurant was a delight to eat in, with food being produced to a good standard.

What a gem fantastic
Just stay here. 50 miles from motorway. Wonderful setting. Perfect size all guests get to know each other. Peace service clean wonderful staff. Great and I mean great food. This place is a gem please enjoy it. The scenery is just to die for. It's not expensive. You can relax by the pool or on the terrace. You can have dinner in the court yard under the stars what a lovely place to be. The furnishings and fittings are lovely. The room spot on. I was nearly put off prior to booking by a stupid review I am so glad I chose this place. Rooms are huge views amazing. You can relax over dinner read a book or lose you self in thought. There were young children by the pool and they were so well behaved this is a place for those appreciate the finer things in life. Probably go back for new year. Romantic a true French retreat the cliche lives.

Very nice modern update in an old chateau. It's great to be on a property with a golf course and tennis courts, plus a fabulous restaurant. The food is really wonderful and this is a top tier restaurant. Fabulous! Will love to go back.

Lovely, charming hotel and great staff!
It's always a good sign when you stay at a hotel and many of your fellow guests are return visitors! My husband and I stayed at the Chateau les Merles for 6 nights and really enjoyed our visit. The staff are great - nothing was too much trouble. We had a really warm welcome with a complimentary glass of sparkling champagne and nibbles and the staff were equally good with families and young children. We ate dinner at the restaurant 4 times. The food and wine was very reasonably priced - especially the 3 course menus - and the candlelit courtyard setting was especially lovely. There is a pool service for the day between 10.30am and 3.30pm, where you can order sandwiches/chips and drinks, which was again very reasonably priced. The pool itself is lovely, gated and surrounded by lavender, with beautiful views. It is quite fresh but that it needed with the very hot weather! There is plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas but you will need a car to get around to most sites(although I did see some visitors to the restaurant arrive by taxi). We don't often stay at the same hotel twice but will happily be making an exception here.

Staff very attentive and restaurant area particularly pleasant, with gorgeous food. Slightly let down by the room however. We stayed in room 1 (double). It was a little bit of a shame to be greeted with a UPVC door in such a lovely building. The layout of the bathroom was also poor, due to the fact that it was very hard to reach the taps without being in the bath. Overall though, a really nice stay made extra special by the warmth of the staff.

The restaurant was terrible, bad food, expensive, smoky room. I don't recommend it. The hotel was clean, but was expecting french chateaux style inside, it was very Deutch, instead. It should be indicated in the advertisment on the internet.

Beautiful Chateau with fantastic food and staff
We booked late but were still able to secure a room of ample size for a family of 4. The welcome we received was incredibly friendly and a glass of champagne on arrival certainly helped relax us after a long journey. We ate dinnner in the restaurant 3 times and the food and wine were stunning. The breakfasts are perfect. The grounds are beautiful and exactly what you expect of a chic hotel in the Dordogne. If you are an intermediate golfer looking for a challenging 9 hole golf course, this place is perfect. We walked the course one day and it is simply stunning, with a good mixture of challenging par 3's and 4's. There is little to fault this hotel but our one criticism is the lack of staff at breakfast and sometimes at dinner, meaning the service can be patchy from time to time. We don't often recommend hotels but loved this place. It is the perfect place to escape to in a beautiful part of the world. They are hugely hospitable to couples and families alike. I'm amazed anyone finds any real negatives with this place!

Stunning hotel in historic location
A great way to finish a holiday. Returning via Caen, a couple of days in Normandy visiting the beaches and memorials of D Day and finishing in the historic town of Bayeaux - which offers more than just the Tapestry! The Chateau is within a few minutes of the town centre but equally well positioned for a quick get away to Caen. Check in was swift, the room was perfect, a busy day meant that room service was the preference - great food and presentation, delivered quickly. The grounds are just enough for a great 15 minute evening stroll. The staff ensured we had a quick get away to the ferry early next morning.

Oasis of relaxation
We had possibly the warmest welcome ever received at Chateau Les Merles, checking in from a seated position without raising a finger, just a glass. The impeccable service continued throughout our stay with the staff being extremely friendly, helpful, and relaxed at all times. Nothing was too much trouble and was always met by a smile – Rainer and Charlie in particular went above and beyond what was expected and helped make our holiday a memorable one. The hotel is beautiful. The decor is a joy to be around and manages to balance style and comfort effortlessly. We loved the grounds, the tennis and walks around the area. It was little cold unfortunately for a swim but we're already thinking about returning, as a family, to stay in one of the private villas next time, so perhaps we'll get a swim in yet. Finally, we only usually eat at a hotel out of necessity but returned many times to the hotel's restaurant. Their tasting menu was beautifully cooked and presented ...as was the, supposedly, basic menu du jour ...which came out looking more like a michelin plate! Superb.

Een idyllische plek waar men er alles aan doet om je thuis te laten voelen in de Dordogne op 10 min. Van Bergerac. Goede wijnen, whiskey’s en heerlijk culinair eten. Goed onderhouden golfbaan. Fijn zwembad, mooie villa’s om te huren met het gezin. Men spreek Nederlands, Engels en Frans. Eigenaren zijn Nederlands.

Personnel tres pro et sympa. Mais pour un 4 étoiles très dessus, rapport qualité prix. Pas de mini-bar dans la chambre. Menage très moyen, dans les parties communes comme la chambre et salle de bain.

Magnifique cadre, check in un peu hâtif, personnel très correct dans l'ensemble, propreté de la salle de bain pas à la hauteur du type d'établissement (peut être un loupé ça arrive). Restaurant bon mais un peu cher pour la qualité ( une partie d'un de nos plat était bien trop salé ). Sonorisation assez faible. Des petites fautes dommages pour le réel potentiel de l'hôtel
