I had a reservation at Quality Inn & Suites - Toronto West for February 19th, booked through Expedia.
A few days before my trip, my father passed away. Because of this sudden and heartbreaking loss, there was absolutely no way I could travel. I was grieving and handling family matters, and simply was not in any mental or emotional state to take a flight.
I reached out to both the hotel and Expedia explaining the situation and hoping for some level of understanding or compassion. I wasn’t even demanding a full refund—a partial refund, credit, or any kind of accommodation would have shown basic humanity.
Instead, I was told nothing could be done. No help, no flexibility, and not even a simple message of sympathy. The response felt cold and dismissive despite the circumstances.
This experience was extremely upsetting. When someone explains that a parent has just passed away, the least a company can do is show some empathy. Unfortunately, that was not the case here.
If I could give this place zero stars—or even negative stars—I absolutely would.
Because of how this was handled, I strongly advise people to think twice before booking here or using Expedia, especially if there’s any chance plans may change due to real-life emergencies.
I am still calling on both the hotel and Expedia to rectify this situation and provide a refund, and until this is resolved I will continue sharing my experience so others are aware"
