Middleton was a farming community, long before the arrival of the quarries.Just to the left of the strip fields, the chimney of Arkwright's Masson Mill can be seen ( at SK 294 573 )

Green pastures A track goes south from Middleton to Middleton Top (on High Peak Trail). Just to the east of the track is a depression in the ground, about 100 metres across. On the 1:25,000 OS map it looks like a tongue piece in a jig-saw and that's the dip in a fairly level pasture.

Our room was perfect it was a shame that the steam room wasn’t working in the spa though. Breakfast was fantastic and the staff were helpful and friendly.

Pretty hotel. We had a wonderful stay in room 121. The suite had a beautiful 4 poster and the bathroom a huge roll top bath. We visited the spa and had an excellent breakfast. Lovely stay. Will return.
