Very nice hotel and atmosphere; all rooms have a unblocked view on the Mekong river. Rooms are big, well decorated, with small kitchenette.
Above all, we had an amazing service with the hotel manager welcoming us at the airport and taking good care of us all along our stay: tuk-tuk reservation and sightseeing tours (without any upcharge vs. agency or normal practice rates). Really felt like VIP service.
The only con is that there is no restaurant or room service available during the day, only "a la carte" breakfast served in the room.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for a relaxing atmosphere and the nice pool.
Great place to stay. Lovely room and pool. Fantastic view of sunset on mekong. 15 minute walk to night market or easy tuktuk ride. Nice to be in a local area rather than the normal town hotels. Service first class, Toey always on hand to advise on places to go and visit. Highly recommended
Mekong Estate was a wonderful stay from start to finish. I booked a 'suite apartment', 65sqm, for my parents and myself (3 pax) for 4 nights in late April 2017. The hotel buildings & grounds are stunning: a couple of beautiful old colonial buildings and a few new ones built in a similar style, set right upon the Mekong River in a lush garden setting. It's a small boutique hotel with 7-10 rooms & shares the pool with another small upmarket hotel. You'll not be bothered by other guests though - plenty of space to enjoy the beautiful surroundings as if you're totally alone! The pool is especially stunning, with 'infinity' views of the Mekong, including wonderful sunsets. Good for laps at 20-25m in length, 5-6ft deep throughout. Our suite was open-plan & very spacious: a large double bed set in its own room, a single bed, open-plan kitchenette (microwave, sink, fridge-freezer), dining area and bathroom - on split levels with two French doors opening onto a long balcony with sweeping river views. Furnishings are tasteful Lao textiles & wood. Bathroom is terracotta with excellent shower. Third bed was proper sized single, perfectly comfortable, linen pristine. Breakfast is served in your room & is truly impeccable - full continental choice of foods, including freshly baked goods and squeezed juices. Service from Mssrs Vatthana & Toui was excellent, prompt and professional, as was the attentive room service.
With a select few units and a slight distance from the city center, Mekong Estate is a haven for those who like some privacy. Like a regular lived-in house with room, bathroom, living room, kitchen and veranda, expect to see some imperfections like slight wear and cobwebs. There's nothing pretentious about it, but it's comfortable, spacious, serene (except for that one day the rooster was particularly energetic), tastefully decorated and provides great views whenever you feel like staying in. Breakfast is served at a time of my preference, swimming was also great later in the day (January mornings are chilly and foggy), but I enjoyed relaxing on the veranda staring out on the Mekong. The passenger boats and fishermen plying the river are unobtrusive, and you will sometimes hear children playing on the banks, women tending to the vegetable garden, or fishermen mending their boats. Wi-fi was reliable except for a very brief power outage one morning; there was no tv in my suite but it didn't matter to me; the bathtub was good for soaking after a day of hiking. Situated past the main road and local houses/shops, it's secluded but not unsafe. If you're the sort who likes to roll out of bed into the tourist action, this isn't the place for you. It's about a 10-minute cycle into town (complimentary lockable bikes provided) or you can take the tuk-tuk. It also takes me 15 minutes to walk back from the Night Market, not a problem in cool temperatures.
