"The view from the front balcony rooms is awesome. Very rustic but relaxing accommodation. Restaurants very close by. Excellent guides are available for outings."
"My friend and I had an absolutely horrible stay here, the worst of our two weeks in Mexico by far. There were stains on our bed sheets, dead flies on shelves, no hot water, and the boiler and electrical wires were hanging out from the bathroom walls. The bathroom smelled terribly, had no air circulation (no fan or window), the tap was very rusted, and the sink was stained. Mould was growing in the corner of the bedroom.
Service was also non-existent. We had no toilet paper, towels, soap or shower products when we arrived. It appears staff also didn't know how the bedding was supposed to be arranged, as the mattress protector was on top of the bed sheets.
When we pointed things out to reception, the man was very uncommunicative and unhelpful. After lots of back and forth, he finally came with some toilet paper and shower towels - which we couldn't use anyway as the water was freezing.
This place should not be advertising on Hotels.com. It does not come anywhere near meeting basic accommodation standards, does not follow hygenic practices, and the images used to promote the hotel are not reflective at all of the terrible condition it's in.
Thankfully we only had one night here!"
"Rancho Kuxtal feels like discovering an idyllic secret. It's so small and tucked away off the tourist route in Yucatan.
Kasie and Victor are such welcoming hosts and we felt totally at ease. There are masses of animals - domesticated, wild and somewhere in between. Cats, kittens, dogs, puppies, ducks, iguana, birds and of course the horses. They're all so loved and well cared for.
The horses are calm, well trained and well kept. We did an hour long trail, very well suited to my friend who is a complete beginner. Victor and Miguel made her feel so confident she trotted in the corral at the end. Also because Yucatan is so flat, it's easy riding in the heat.
The photographs of the accommodation don't do it justice; the ranch is rustic but the cabins are surprisingly luxe.
The ranch is easy to get to from Tulum or Cancun; buses go frequently to Tizimin and from there it's a short taxi (about $100 pesos).
There's not much accessible from the ranch unless you have a car or are happy to take taxis everywhere. But that's also what's great about it - it's a quiet retreat.
Couldn't recommend more. "
