Good: newly built hotel, clean, kitchen facilities (kettle, coffee maker [must bring own coffee + filters], 2 burner stovetop, microwave, fridge). Close to subway stop. Very good pricing for Lille. If not for the problems (below) would be a real bargain.
So-so: neighbourhood not interesting, fairly long walk from train station if just walking.
Bad: (1) Check-in terrible. Left waiting at outer gate after buzzing front desk to get in. Told we had done the right thing to get in. Waited outside until finally a guest with a card key let us in. If booking this hotel, keep front desk phone # handy on your cell phone in case you experienced what we did. (2) No soap in sink or shower soap dispensers. (3) unexpected extra 90 euro "deposit" hold on credit card though in fairness this amt. never charged.
Ugly: Noise! This hotel is on a very busy autoroute expressway. Many European hotels have figured out how to insulate rooms from outside street noise (e.g., well designed windows, sometimes with triple pane glass). This hotel is NOT one of them. The noise lasts all night. Light or even medium sleepers will not get a good night's rest without wearing noise-cancelling headphones. Note: this problem probably does not affect rooms pointing away from the expressway (our room pointed away but was on a corner so one window pointed to the expressway -- that was enough to make life terrible). If booking this hotel, try to extract a promise to get one of these "away facing" rooms.
