Lampeland is the administrative centre of the area of Flesberg, and is popular with amateur fishermen, due to its location right on the River Numedalslågen. The river boasts some of the best salmon fishing in Norway and the area provides excellent accommodation for those who enjoy being surrounded by nature. Several marked hiking trails can be found along the river and the vast forests, but don't forget to bring decent footwear when visiting Lampeland for the weekend!
Numedal is also known as the "medieval valley" and, if you travel here during June, you'll be able to experience Middle Ages Week, which is full of fun and educational activities for young and old. The oldest farm in the village, Dåsettunet, dates back to the mid-1600s and offers various outdoor activities including folk music and dance shows and is well worth a visit for history enthusiasts. You can also go on a tour of one of the four stave churches in the area, one of which is situated near Lampeland: The Flesberg Stave Church.
Lampeland is also a favoured location for conferences and provides a great starting point for a visit to the nearby Blefjell mountain. Skiing conditions are excellent in winter and the area is a very popular destination for those who enjoy slalom skiing and snowboarding. Fagerfjell Ski Centre offers several slopes of varying difficulty levels, as well as toboggan slopes, a ski school and ski hire.
Lampeland can be accessed by bus or car from the South via Kongsberg. You can also take the train o Kongsberg and the 30-minute bus to Lampeland. If you are arriving from the West, you will experience a magnificent drive across the Hardangervidda mountain plateau before reaching Numedal and Lampeland. From the North, the journey takes you via Geilo. Lampeland's location also means it can also be used as a base for day trips to Kongsberg, which boasts the Norwegian Mining Museum, fascinating tours of the silver mines and the annual jazz festival that takes place in July.
