La Marinella Beach is the archetypal Mediterranean beach, with sugary white sands, clear blue waters and surprisingly few crowds. Backed by lush vegetation, the beach is ideal for strolling along the coast or sprawling under the sun. For those seeking more action, La Marinella is also known for its exciting watersports and makes an excellent base for experiencing the nightlife in nearby Porto Rotondo.
The beach’s fine, white sands stretch 0.5 miles (0.8 kilometres) along the coast. With shallow waters and a gentle slope, this beach is a safe and popular spot for families with young children. Walk to the water’s edge and look northeast, where you can see the islands of Soffi and Mortorio about 5 miles (8 kilometres) off the coast.
Rent a lounger and spend an afternoon listening to the gentle sounds of the waves. Go for a swim in the warm waters or sign up for thrilling watersports, such as windsurfing, scuba diving or snorkeling.
Despite the many activities available, La Marinella Beach is a remarkably tranquil stretch of sand. Watch the boats sail in and out of the nearby harbour or rent your own sailboat and see the sunset on the open water.
Take a walk to nearby Ira Beach, one of the main beaches of Porto Rotondo. Named after Princess Ira Furstenberg, this gorgeous beach has a reputation for attracting celebrities and other wealthy public figures. Keep an eye out for famous faces, or simply enjoy more water activities and beautiful Mediterranean scenery.
Enjoy a low-key evening back on La Marinella Beach or head to Porto Rotondo to experience its legendary nightlife. Find a seat at a casual bar overlooking the surrounding hillside or dance until the early hours of the morning at a club.
La Marinella Beach is located less than 2.5 miles (4 kilometres) from Porto Rotondo and a little over 9 miles (15 kilometres) from Olbia, along the northeastern coast of Sardinia. Free parking is available at the beach.
