Tourist Guide
Kristinehamn
Enjoy boat trips on Lake Vanern, wander amid elks and mansions during your trip to Kristinehamn.

Kristinehamn is located in the Swedish province of Varmland, 25 miles from Karlstad City and 43 miles from Orebro City. A weekend package to Kristinehamn suits those who want to visit a charming town next to Sweden's biggest lake, Vanern, in an area offering outdoor adventures on both water and land. The area also has a rich cultural heritage.

Journey out on Lake Vanern on the wooden ship Bojorten, which is a beautiful copy of a Swedish vessel from the 1600s. The cruise company offers classy routes where you can enjoy three-course dinners, but there are also music trips and pirate voyages. Step on-board a ferry and head to Valon Island, know for its sandy beaches in Sandvikarna, where the waters are shallow. From here bridges connect the island with Kalvon Island and Sibberon Island, both of which offer rocky shores to go swimming from.

Trek into the gorgeous Swedish wilderness and wander along the Jarnleden walking trail, which follows the old iron transport route, starting at theHytte Estate and continuing all the way to Kristinehamn Guest Harbour. You will pass through species-rich landscapes and may be able to spot elk or deer, before you get to Varnumsviken Bay, where the estatesGustafsvik Herrgard and Ostervik Farm are well worth exploring. During a weekend trip to Kristinehamn you can visit Kristinehamn Golf Club which offers parkland and woodland courses. There is also a special Crazy Golf Course near the harbour.

People are often surprised to hear that Kristinehamn has a strong connection to the world renowned artist Pablo Picasso. You can see a 50 feet tall Picasso Sculpture at Strandudden - which is known locally as Cape Picasso. The modern art museum Kristinehamns Konstmuseum has previously displayed works by Picasso, and always displays thought provoking exhibitions featuring both Swedish and international artists.

When you go for trips to Kristinehamn you will often get to the city's train station where there are buses to and from different districts. There are plenty of vibrant neighbouring areas to explore if you use Kristinehamn as a starting point. Reach the city in 30-40 minutes by car or coach from Karlstad Airport.

This Swedish gem has a lot more to offer than the few examples above. You will find unforgettable sights and attractions in and around Kristinehamn.
