Kristiansund is located on an island in the county of Nordmøre. Nature experiences are the city's main attraction, as well as the world-renowned Atlanterhavsveien (Atlantic Ocean Road).

Hundreds of thousands of Norwegians visit the road every year, and there are many attractions you can visit on the way as you are driving along the road.
If you prefer mountainous landscapes, Kristiansund can be used as an excellent base for great hikes. Pick a trail and start walking. You will get a great view of the sea and the landscape around Kristiansund when you get to the mountain tops that surround the city. Walk up to Freikollen, a hike that takes about three hours and boasts first-rate views of the sea and the mountains.
There's also a lot of exciting things to do in the city centre. If you're on holiday with children, take your family to Atlanterhavsbadet (Atlantic Ocean Indoor Water Park). This water park was voted the best in the counties of Møre og Romsdal and Sør-Trøndelag, and has several different swimming pools, slides, saunas and hot tubs, as well as many other fun things. Also make sure to go to Mellemværftet, a museum where you can learn more about the shipping industry.
Take a boat to Grip, a small island about 30 minutes away from Kristiansund. You will get to see Grip Stavkirke (Grip Stave Church), which is an impressive sight from both the inside and the outside. The church was built in the second half of the 1400s, but has been restored several times since then.
