Village Hotel Swindon
8/10 Good
"The hotel is very clean and ideally located, with shops nearby and an adventure centre with cinema and other entertainment facilities just across the road. We booked a family room and it was great, very spacious and clean. I requested a cot for my baby and it was in the room when we got there. The swimming pool and other facilities were wonderful, and we all enjoyed it. The bar/restaurant was great too and they were showing the World Cup final on the big screen which was brilliant for my husband and 10 year old who are football mad. The staff were lovely, talked us through the self check in and out. They also assisted very promptly when we realised our shower had no bodywash, just shampoo and handwash. There were a lot of positives and we’d definitely book again. The only things that let us down a bit was that the room was at the far end of the corridor so there was a lot of walking to get to it. It seems the closest exit was blocked off for some maintenance work, which we aren’t holding against them as it is temporary. It was very warm in the night and there was no where to get water, which for me as a breastfeeding mum was disappointing. I tried to message the team on the designated platform, I even went down to reception in the early hours to try and get some water but to no avail. I assumed there’d be a water dispenser or a vending machine at least. Otherwise a good stay, seems they are fixing a few things in the hotel which is promising. I would highly recommend"
"The problem wasn't the property - they were excellent. It was Expedia taking my money and failing to book the property - half hour phone call required to get this sorted out. The hotel, god love them, upgraded us to a suite to apologise for *Expedia's* error."
"We enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Swindon.
OK externally it’s looking a little tired and dated and needing some TLC, but putting that to one side, it has several plus points worthy of note not the least of which was the competitive price for a one night stay.
Internally the place is neat and tidy and clean. Our room was fine. The bathroom was small but the Grohe shower - a personal favourite of mine - worked well. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. It even had a window that you could open which isn’t a certainty in many hotels. Plus a fan to help during the current heatwave.
We only stayed one night but our interaction with the staff went well. They all seemed happy in what they were doing and were more than competent. Staff in the restaurant especially went out of their way to be friendly and ensure things were as they should be.
The breakfast in particular represented excellent VFM. Surely, no one passes up on this opportunity to start the day with everything you could want for less than the cost of two cups of coffee.
Location wise, it’s a short distance off the M4, and is a ten minute walk to Coate Water Country Park which has got a circular walk which was great for exercising the dog. This is highly recommended.
All things considered, it was a positive experience and if I’m looking to break up a journey from the far SW to London is something I would likely repeat.
We didn’t use the swimming pool but I can imagine that would be another positive feature"
