Top Kildoon Hotel Reviews

The K Club

10/10 Excellent

"Great stay. Second visit. Just as good the second time. The staff are magnificent and make the whole trip worthwhile. Once you are on the estate you don't have to drive. The internal buggy/ cars are great."

Barberstown Castle

8/10 Good

"Beautiful Castle, but a Disappointing Stay We stayed at Barberstown Castle for one night, booking a Junior Suite for €200. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to our expectations. Although the hotel is advertised as a castle, our accommodation was in an adjoining building rather than the castle itself. The suite was spacious with lovely high ceilings, but the room was quite chilly, with no way of adjusting the temperature. We also experienced traffic noise, and the room had no real view. One of our biggest disappointments was the limited access to the actual castle. As hotel guests, the only part of the historic castle we could access was the breakfast room, which rather took away from the experience of staying at a castle hotel. Dinner cost us an additional €103, and breakfast wasn't included in the room rate. The property certainly has character and history, and the Eric Clapton memorabilia in reception was an interesting touch. However, for the price paid, we expected a more comfortable and memorable experience. Overall, a beautiful setting, but the experience didn't quite justify the cost for us."

The Lodges at Kilkea Castle

8/10 Good

"A lovely family breakaway at Kilkea Castle Lodges We had a lovely stay at Kilkea Castle Lodges for our first little breakaway as a family of three with our 3-month-old daughter. The lodge was a great size, and we really enjoyed the delicious breakfast in the clubhouse, the beautiful grounds and the spa facilities. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We really appreciated having a cot and water provided on request. We did have a small issue one rainy evening when the safety latch on the door to Lodge 352 locked us out, but the staff responded immediately and were very helpful in resolving it. There are a few minor areas for improvement. The steps at the entrance to the lodge mean it isn’t easily accessible for prams or wheelchair users, which is worth considering for families with young babies and guests with mobility needs. The door to Lodge 352 was also difficult to close and required a loud bang, which wasn’t ideal when trying not to wake a sleeping baby. We noticed draughts coming in through the windows and patio door, particularly on a very windy night. Providing kitchen roll or a tea towel in the kitchen would also be a useful addition for drying cups and dishes. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay and loved the setting, the lodge and the warm hospitality. With a few small improvements, it would be even better. We would happily return and look forward to visiting again!"

Kildare House Hotel

8/10 Good

"Room was clean but dated. The bed was soft and uncomfortable so didn’t sleep well. Staff were very polite and helpful. Evening meal and cooked breakfast was excellent. Car parking was limited. The hotel was good value for money and they going through an upgrade. Hopefully if we stay again the rooms will be modern and more comfortable."
