Think twice when booking this hotel
I understand this is a very old hotel but need to keep up to the standards. When i checked in, there was only one towel in the bathroom and few hours later i managed to get two additional towles. The food was good.

The hotel is perfect, the most quiet hotel in Kandy, with a ten minute walk to the city centre. Food excellent, staff lovely We stay here every year

Booked on Wotif.com. Catered for my family. FREE welcoming drink was nice in the hot weather. Waited for our extra bed to be put in the room as they mustn't have received my message, but I'd only sent it about an hour prior to our arrival. Bags were carried to our spacious, clean room with a balcony & city view. Bathroom was spacious, clean, had enough good quality towels for all of us with good hot running water for all of us. My only issue was upon checkout they handed me a bill for room payment even though I'd paid online with wotif.com like i have in 50 countries. After we showed them our booking in conjunction with bank withdrawal & they made a few phone calls to the company it was sorted. Well they said they'd call if any issues. We did have our driver (we've had for 5days) with us communicating so I'm sure that helped.

We just finished a two week holiday in Sri Lanka and this was one of our least favorite hotels. Breakfast was not good - the rooms and bathrooms are very dated and could use an upgrade. Staff are friendly.

Lovely historic hotel. Nice pool area. The breakfast rom was lovely and they served a very good breakfast. The internet was really slow. We had a lovely lake view from our room.

Disappointing Experience
Poor management skills and lack of knowledge and skill of staff accounted for poor service levels. The choices and service levels at meal times (buffets) , overall maintenance of the property and cleanliness were poor .

The customer service of the front office and housekeeping manager provided very good service. The front office served strawberry guavas juice to my friends who are not staying in the same hotel for free. That’s really impressed me. Although the hotel facilities are not up to our expectations but the Housekeeping Manager was very polite to response to our feedback and action on it asap. We were given a upgraded service to suite room at level 3 from level 1 due to the mosquitoes issue. He even feedback to the management on the changes we suggested and they are looking into it to change for better facilities. Hope next trip when I stayed there again the facilities will be better. The vegetarian spring rolls and vegetarian cutlets are yummy. Myself and my Son love to drink the strawberry guavas juice in the hotel restaurant.

This hotel has lots of old English charm. Beautifully appointed with timber floors and solid timber door frames and doors. Amazing old ballroom with gallery around the upper level. It is hoped the property is preserved for many years to come. The corridors and common rooms were strongly scented with cloves. The flowers were changed regularly and the displays were fantastic. Looking over the lake it was a short walk to the temple of the sacred tooth. Also a short tuc tuc ride to town centre.

Atmospheric hotel
A beautiful old colonial era hotel that was very atmospheric. Lovely grounds and excellent large swimming pool. We liked the long old corridors, nice bar and outdoor areas. The hotel is situated on the south of the lake a short tuk tuk ride or 15 -20 mins walk to town attractions. The road in front of the hotel is very busy so you need to take care ! Service was good. Breakfast buffet was ok . Overall a really nice historic place to stay in Kandy

Be Warned!
We had been to Kandy before and had a drink at the Suisse and vowed to stay there if we came again. The hotel is an old colonial hotel but unfortunately it is severely diminished since its hey day. The main problem is the general lack of cleanliness especially in the dining room. we were confronted with a dirty tablecloth, dirty cutlery, various chefs standing around with filthy aprons completely unconcerned. The whole experience was finished off by the massive cockroach I saw scuttling under one of the serving stations. We were forced to leave our breakfast and find sustenance elsewhere, something that has never happened to me before or since. On complaining to the duty manager it was not taken seriously. The food and beverage manager was new, and after I took him on a tour of the dining room and pointed out how bad it was he could nothing but agree me as to its parlous state. I wonder if he has managed to improve things at all? although I am certainly not going back to find out! We had had a marvelous holiday in Sri Lanka staying in the most excellent hotels, just our stay in the Suisse on our last two nights left us with a sinking feeling.

Good location but I don’t keep a good souvenir.
Very well located, but old hôtel; needs to be renovated like the carpets and the bathroom. Dining room very old and needs light. Music at night is horrible with an electric piano singer that sounds like old parties 40 years ago. The massage room so ordinary that I changed my mind.

Loved our one night stay here. Friendly efficient staff, great breakfast and dinner buffet, clean comfortable room. The hotel is a colonial building and oozes charm, especially the grand old dining room. A good location right opposite the Kandy lake.

The hotel was a beautiful Colonial building. But it was way to expensive fot what you get. The room was nice but the outdated. The ac was loud and kept us up all night. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
