Very good location in the centre of central Kagoshima half way between the station and the port, (about 15 minutes walk each way). Modern, clean and friendly staff. However, because relatively few people venture down here, their English was equal to my limited Japanese.
Kagoshima is well worth the visit. The Volcano can be seen from anywhere in the port are and is a short, 15 minute, Ferry journey across the bay Costs around £1.60/$2 each way. The national park walk across the 1914 lava flow, turn right from the ferry terminal, is incredibly scenic, tranquill and well laid out with hot spring water to bath your feet in. The bus stop at the end, about 3km either takes you back, or you can travel up to the observatory, (about $2)
