Jambiani Beach is an idyllic stretch of white sand, lapped by the blue-green water of the Indian Ocean. A few peaceful family inns and hotels adorn the back of this stunning beach, with excellent views of its swaying palm trees and seaweed collections. Enjoy the absolute serenity at this peaceful and secluded oasis.
Stroll along the beach and feel the crunch of the soft sand between your toes. Relax in the shade of a palm tree with a book and read or watch people pass by. Stretch out on the sand to enhance your tan, before taking a refreshing dip in the water to cool down. Swim at high tide and notice the seaweed yards at low tide. This vast beach is known for its tranquility, with no sign of bars or casinos and relatively little electricity.
Watch local fishermen looking for their catch of the day. Note how the seaweed is harvested here, before being dried and exported for use in cuisine. Many locals get around the area by cycling along the beach. Rent a bicycle from one of the several stalls dotted along the shoreline of the bay.
Chat with locals to learn about their culture. Ask to take out a traditional fishing boat, which is known as a dhow. Ride out at sunset and admire the darkening hues of the African sky from within the reef area. You can also snorkel in the crystal clear waters to spot a range of colorful fish.
Gaze up at the sky in the afternoon, when it is often filled with kites. Bring footwear to maneuver the wooden slabs that help with the seaweed harvesting process.
