"We had a nice room with a very nice view of the ocean and morning sunrise. The room was adequate, nothing fancy, but clean and well put together. The check in process was super easy with a phone call since the front office was closed upon our arrival."

The staff was authentically attentive and friendly. The onsite restaurant, Nichinan, had superb cocktails; you’ll need to peruse other reviews for clues about the food. The location is excellent- just a few steps away from the super-cute, bustling and varied commercial and entertainment options of downtown Portsmouth. Cheap public parking garages are just a few blocks away, but we recommend the valet parking service, which is worth the premium to avoid trundling suitcases through the busy downtown sidewalks. We will definitely choose the Thaxter again the next time we visit. "
