"The check-in process was awful and complicated. They wanted copies of my driver's license and ETA. And I sent that several times but once was not good enough. They wouldn't send me the access code because their online check-in system didn't work. The bed/pillow upon arrival had hairs and what looked like a burger on it. The hotel smelled awful. There was no window in one of the rooms - I am pretty sure that violates fire code/building code. The room we booked wasn't available upon check-in. The bed has a hard board that runs it - right in the center. We didn't stay and moved to another hotel. I asked for my money back and they have not done so."

"We arrived just before 9:00pm and went to check in. No welcome! The guy on reception barely looked up when we said we want to check in. He stared at his screen for what seemed to be about 5 minutes then he left to get another person to help him. She never acknowledged us - just spoke briefly to the guy then he finally gave us the room key. He did offer two keys which was good. He never offered any breakfast information or car park information. When we asked about the parking he then asked for the car registration but still didn't tell us what the payment arrangements were. On our way to the room we noticed that the corridors had what seemed to be an effluent smell disguised by air freshner. Following days the smell was gone. Once we got to the room we noticed that there was only one towel. My wife went back to reception to ask for one where she was told " I can't leave the desk" - someone will be up later. It never came and I had to go to reception and ask again in the morning which was delivered promptly. This hotel is very busy and noisy as it has sports bars, a public gym and pool. Bangs and thumps start from the gym below from about 5:30am until about 10:30pm. There is loud music coming from the bar. If you open the bedroom window when you wake up all you hear is music and shouting from the gym classes below. The beds are comfortable. The bathroom could be brighter. The side of the WC is very close to the wall so a bit cramped. We will not be staying again."

"Chefs food was fantastic , the young man in charge of the restaurant 22/5/26 was excellent. The room was lovely. The only little niggle was the lack of attention from the receptionist on check in 22/5 /26, away from desk chatting. The lady at check out was great."

"Very comfortable stay! Great location and easy check in and check out. We ate the breakfast because it was included in our stay, but it was only okay, not great. Otherwise I wouldn't have paid extra for cold eggs and beans."

"We arrived at Thainstone Hotel on Saturday late afternoon . We asked to book our meal for supper as we were going to a show just across from hotel , as the show starts at 7.30 , we needed to book a meal a bit earlier , the receptionist said we can’t serve meals till 7.30 as there is a wedding in process. She said she will ask the chef but he said no . Even a sandwich would b better than nothing , but no . She said she couldn’t even offer a bag of crisps as they hadn’t any of them either..So we had no supper. This stay was supposed to be a special treat as we had just had our 47th wedding anniversary. In the morning we were supposed to have showers , I put on the shower , but or the time I got the right temperature the bottom was full of water and black stuff was coming out of drain , so that was no shower for us both . On the good side breakfast was really good . But for £163.99 and 4 Star we was extremely disappointed ."

Strathburn Hotel Inverurie by Compass Hospitality

"The Strathburn Hotel was the ideal venue for our surprise birthday gathering. The hotel is old style but comfortable, clean and warm with a quiet lounge area beside the reception where we sat and chatted. All the staff were both efficient and friendly - Nicki( booking), Charlie and a very helpful Polish lady. The food was good, though the menu fairly limited especially for gluten free choices. The chef had made fresh gluten free rolls one night - the best I've ever tasted and the Thai curry was fantastic. For other gluten free people The Garioch Fish Bar just along the road does lovely gluten free fish and chips too."
