"Staff was friendly and helpful. Gave us a room upgrade. The room was spacious and light. Plenty of blankets towels and tea/coffee supplies. Dinner downstairs was excellent and our waitress Emily was bubbly and very sweet. The room was a bit dated but that added to the charm. There was a well equipped kitchen with refrig and stove. No breakfast at this inn. But there are options close by. The bar had a lot of options and the prices very very reasonable. Would absolutely stay here again. "

"I have very mixed feelings about my two-night stay at Altnaharra Hotel. There were some huge positives: the staff were superb, the restaurant food was excellent, and the downstairs ambience was exactly what you hope for in a Highland hotel — open fires, comfy sofas, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The location itself is also incredibly special. I paid around £150 per night room-only via Expedia as a treat while touring the Highlands. First impressions of my single room, “Sika,” were good, but little things soon started to niggle. The old wall heater worked but the room was still cold overnight. The controls area had been painted over and one knob came away, so I couldn’t increase the heat. The bathroom towel rail also didn’t work, making it unpleasantly chilly for showering. The PAT sticker was dated 2010. The bath taps and shower area needed a much deeper clean. To the hotel’s credit, staff quickly provided an extra blanket for my second night, although the first one was dirty and had to be replaced. This was handled politely and promptly, but unfortunately added to the disappointments. That’s what makes this difficult to review. I genuinely loved the communal areas, atmosphere, food, staff, and setting. However, the bedroom itself was tired and disappointing for the price paid. I hope “Sika” is the exception and I was simply unlucky. If travelling solo, I’d suggest requesting a different room. All that said, there is still something undeniably special about the hotel"

"This is a beautiful hotel. Arrived for an overnight stay, booked standard king, checked in, was given a standard twin, as it’s same cost, we accepted, it didn’t matter. Room was pretty small but nice, not a great view, but was adequate with a very small wardrobe (4 hangers), wardrobe had no other storage space, as top shelf had the room safe, iron, fan etc stored there. Now here’s the weird thing, there were no drawers anywhere in the room to store underwear, T-shirts, jumpers etc. Called down to reception thinking we must be making a mistake only to be advised “You are correct there are no storage drawers for clothing in this room or any other”!! After further discussion with the very nice duty manager we were upgraded to a bigger room, really lovely, but still no storage drawers. Not sure what we would have done if we had been there for a week or where the many golfers who are there store anything. As it was, a few items went in the wardrobe and the rest stayed in our holdalls! I will repeat, this is a great hotel, beautiful location, good staff, clean, very nice bar area, lovely breakfast. However, invest in what every other hotel has, a couple of drawers for clothes in the bedrooms and maybe one in the bathroom."

"Pretty poor for what I paid for 1 night. Room was very dated, shower that only trickled water, black mould around bath. Can't even get a decent coffee at breakfast, same instant nescafe sachets offered in the room with hot water provided. Spent many a night in a variety of hotels in different countries, this place is definitely to be remembered for the wrong reasons."

"Stayed in the glorious junior suite overlooking Royal Dornoch's new clubhouse. Super breakfast and my hotel partner said it was the best filtered coffee he has had in a while. Highly recommend with convenience of the golf course. "
