American Inn and Suites Houghton Lake

2/10 Terrible

"The one clerk working (who said she was brand new) was very kind and friendly, but that didn't make up for the experience. The bed felt comfortable, but I was only able to see if with the light of my phone! The electricity was out the entire night and morning... so no water pressure, no charging my phone, no T.V., and no breakfast in the morning. I know an electricity failure isn't necessarily the fault of a hotel, but I would think there would at least be some emergency electrical backup for the necessities. It was too late to go elsewhere, or I would have request a cancellation with a refund. The place may be great most times, but this was my experience. I'm waiting to hear back from management if they will give me a reimbursement."

"The room was smaller but clean and well maintained the balcony was nice but starting to show wear. The view was amazing and overall it was a very peaceful stay. The mini fridge was pretty small but worked well enough for our week long stay. There wasn't onsite staff but they were very responsive and helpful and went out of their way to msg and make sure we had everything we needed and weren't having any issues and were very professional and friendly. Will definitely be staying there any time we're in the area."
