View the cargo and cruise ships scuttling around the largest seaport in Israel from the viewpoint at the top of Mount Carmel.
The Haifa Port is a vast marina that stretches along a large part of Haifa’s northeastern coastline. Built around a deep-water harbor, it’s a hub of enormous trawlers, yachts and cruise ships. Travel in ferries from this huge port to exotic destinations across the Mediterranean Sea.
Relax in one of the pubs and restaurants in and around this busy marine hub, enjoying a meal as well as a vista of the sea. While you wait for your boat to depart, browse the items for sale in the duty-free shop in the passenger terminal. Enjoy snacks and beverages in the café and peruse the trinkets on display in the souvenir shop. You can also change currency and claim back taxes for your purchases during your stay in Israel.
Outside, stroll along the quay and admire the rows of boats. Marvel at the sheer size of the cruise ships and watch people at work. Embark on a boat trip with a tour guide around this large marina. For an unobstructed view of the entire harbor, head inland up the side of Mount Carmel. From the observation deck at the top, you’ll be able to see the Bahá’í Gardens as well as the passenger and cargo ships of the port.
Think about the rich history of the port, around which the city grew dramatically in the early 20th century. Haifa Bay had been an important hub since prehistoric times and was a key part of Galilee. Note that the port’s activities today range from personal and commercial to military and industrial.
The Haifa Port runs along the eastern shore of Haifa toward the northern tip of the city. Ride the train to the Haifa Center station, which is next to the harbor. Several bus stops also line the adjacent street. You can drive and drop off your car in the short-term or long-term parking lots. While in this part of the city, check out Paris Square, the Dagon Grain Museum and the Haifa City Museum.
