Ruins of an old nunnery in Gudhem, which translates to "God Home", located in the west of Sweden. This area is filled with sights. Not only ruins like this, there are also graves and rune stones from the bronze age all around... An area seldom visited by foreign tourists.

Falkoping is situated in the Swedish region of Vastergotland, and is famous for its genuine small town nature and its incomparable cultural heritage.

Explore the charming little town of Falkoping with its shops and eateries before heading out in the beautiful natural environs. During a holiday in Falkoping you will be surrounded by medieval churches, popular recreational areas and interesting museums. If you travel to Falkoping in spring, you may even get to witness the unique mating dance of thousands of cranes.

The area around Falkoping has been inhabited for over 5000 years, and there are several landmarks that tell of its rich history. Be sure to visit Gudhem Medieval Convent, the recreated stone age village of Ekehagens forntidsby and Asele Ta, where you can find the largest collection of traditional Swedish "backstugor" (hill cottages) in the country. You can also dwell deeper into the history of Falkoping at Falbygdens Museum, where you amongst other things can study an interesting exhibition on prehistoric times.

Get your culture fix at the Stadsteatern, go for a walk in the park on Ranten or visit the only cinema in town Cosmorama. Falkoping also has a variety of different smaller museums. See 120 motorcycles from different eras at Lennart Magnusson Motorcykelmusum or visit Fonus begravningsmuseum, which is the only funeral museum in Sweden. Don't miss your chance to see one of the country's most well known bird habitats at Hornborgar Lake during your weekend trip to Falkoping.

If you're looking for an active holiday, you are in the right place! The two bicycle paths Sverigeleden and Vastgotaleden both pass through Falkoping, and you can also ride your bike along the former tracks of Falkoping-Uddagardens Railway. If you rather walk you could take the 40kilometre hiking trail Pilgrimsleden which goes from Falkoping to Varnhem by way of Gudhem. Whatever you do, make sure you get out and explore the natural beauty around Falkoping.

Falkoping is easy to get to by car, bus or train. Highways E20 and E4 go past the town, and it is also a rail hub with good connections to other Swedish cities. By train the trip to Falkoping takes 45 minutes from Jonkoping, one hour from Gothenburg and 2.5 hours from Stockholm. Get around town by car or use local public transport, which is made up of four lines of buses that all start in the centre of town.

Falkoping's rich history, unique natural environment and many activities are not to be missed when you plan your Nordic holiday. Falkoping is in short a true jewel in the southwest of Sweden.
