Awesome Place Outside the City
"This place was awesome. It's located about 15 minutes outside the city. Very pretty property with free canoeing available. Rooms and service were great. The breakfast was light but delicious. Wish we could have stayed longer."

"The hotel was incredibly quiet in August- we had the huge dining room to ourselves so it was almost rather eerie! The decor is a little faded but so what?! The location by the lake is lovely and the whole area very calm and peaceful. The lake was great to swim in using the hotel's dock.
The best things about the hotel were the staff (although we really only dealt with one young lady who seemed to do everything and was always on duty!). She made our stay by allowing us to change rooms, (and upgrading us!) as we had booked a room with a double bed.
The menu in the dining room was comprehensive and the food absolutely delicious. Breakfast offered plenty of choice too, even though there were only a few guests.
Value for money - we had a very relaxing stay."

AVOID - Backpaper hostel not hotel
"This is not by any stretch of the imagination a hotel. It would be generous to describe it as a tired student hall of residence or a cheap backpaper's hostel that has seen better days. The room is stark and very poorly equipped. Advertised for 'self catering' there were no amenities whatsover provided - no crockery or cutlery, no cooking utensils, not even a mug. There was no hair dryer. But worse than the spartan accommodation, the 'curtains' were little more than thin sheets and not all the windows were fully covered. After I complained, some basic kitchen equipment and a hair dryer was provided and the curtains were replaced with something just about adequate. However, as shown in the pictures, one of the windows cannot be covered as there is no mounting rail. The sun rises bright and early in Finland so sleep under these conditions is difficult. I was forced to forage for some black refuse bin liners and create my own black out covering.
All this for the ridiculous charge of €239 per night - for accommodation that would have been over-priced at €50. The hotel - who should be ashamed of themselves for this blatant price-gouging - apologised and we checked out early (one night refunded) and lost one day in this lovely town. It was the Opera Season which explains the cynical approach. Had we not had tickets for 2 performances we would have never have stayed a single night. AVOID!
PS:breakfast is just about adequate in quantity, very average in quality & OJ highly dilute!"

"We spent three nights in Savonlinna Rentals. It’s an excellent base from which to explore. Their website has plenty of additional information about the area and practical advice about parking etc.
Easy contactless check in. The whole interior was virtually new. Excellent Wi-Fi. Two washing machines, two showers and three WCs shared between ten rooms. This was fine in practice. Some of the rooms have kitchens, otherwise there’s a shared kitchen with everything you might need.
There was a bit of a muck up with our booking, as the twin room we reserved had been remodelled as a single room after we’d booked. This meant a fold away bed on our first night and two different rooms in the other two nights. Bit of a pain packing and unpacking all the time but the owner made it as painless as possible for us and they were both nicer rooms than the one we’d booked so no real problem. "
