"Staff was friendly & helpful. The location is good for a short stay, easy access to the port and trails. Hotel is typical creaky old labyrinth with some charm - none of the lights worked in our room. Did not eat in the $$$ restaurant."

"We were absolutely fuming to be woken up at 04.00 by a HGV dustbin lorry collecting rubbish from the bins outside our bedroom window. After getting back to sleep we were again woken up by the extremely loud fire alarm going off at 06.00. Nobody came around to say if it was just a false alarm and not to evacuate, and no explanation was given at reception when asked about the alarm. I was told that the HGV dustbin lorry was from the council, but I find it hard to believe that the council collect rubbish at 04.00 on a bank holiday Monday so I do wonder if if I was told the truth, and if I was told the truth, then is that the best that you can do, allowing the emptying your bins in the middle of the night, regardless of how many guests get woken up ? I do realise that the fire alarm was probably due to some idiot smoking or vaping in their room, but the whole hotel was awoken and no explanation was given, and wherever the alarm was activated would be shown up on the fire control board, so the source would have been identified. Absolutely disgusted and fuming"

Maison Dieu Guest House

6/10 Okay

"Caution. We booked this location due to proximity to the ferries but on a busy weekend the authorities will not allow a left turn at the bottom of Maison Dieu road. You will be sent out of town and 3 roundabouts later able to come back. A 10 minute drive becomes 2.5 hours. The room was okay. Tired. The person that opened the front door did not introduce themselves and or say welcome. The first thing they said was “you should have received an email with check-in information.” It turns out I did but since I had been driving for hours I didn’t see it. Maybe send it the day before? If people are ringing the doorbell there’s a chance they did in fact not see said email."

"Loved having access to a kitchen and a washing machine, much needed after 3 wks camping. Beds were supper comfy cozy, and contrary to other reviews we did not find the street noise bothersome, and we had the windows open. Traffic noise calmed by midnight. Place was very well looked after by hardworking staff, we saw staff regularly in the 4 days we stayed. Shout out to them, because it's deplorable the mess other guests left in the kitchen. Very inconsiderate not leaving it clean for the next users."

"Hotel is rather rundown and shabby. It is clean though. I paid for a family room one queen bed w a sofa. I was traveling with my brother so he could not stay in the same bed. He graciously slept on the couch. He went to talk to somebody on duty and they seem like they were going to raise the rate that we paid for a lesser room. I said no, I did not. Anyway, the staff was rather rude and the room was not what we paid for."
