"What a absolutely fabulous holiday.
Firstly I need to comend the staff who were utterly fabulous to the max.
Careen went above & beyond when I tore a ligament in my foot dancing at the ceilidh. Constantly checking on us, got me crutches from a friend to help keep the weight off it and her friendliness is outstanding.
Fionna in the Winter Gardens. First person we met on arrival & left with a new friend. She is an absolute sweetheart.
Holly at reception who helped change our room as it was too small & hot for a weeks stay.
Chloe at the restaurant area who always constantly chatted & checked on us.
Kevin in the Meikle...what a sound guy.
Daniel in the Terrace...outstanding guy.
Lynsay in the Terrace, (Usually in spa), wonderful girl.
We honestly didn't encounter a member of staff who were not amazing, friendly and nothing was an issue. Utterly outstanding.
Breakfast was lush.
We ate at the Murray Park most evenings * preferred the food choices there but food was also nice in the Terrace.
The folk driving the wee train up to the Glen were fabulous too.
Pedro is just an absolute legend too. Known him since coming to the Hydro in the 70s & 80s every year for 2 weeks with my family.
Pool was lovely and warm thankfully as we can't use them when cold.
Victorian Spa was nice. Our only issue was the added price. I wouldn't mind a small fee but thought it was a bit harsh as we couldn't afford to use it more than once plus it was busy with locals.
All in all...Can't wait to return."
"Great staff, location good to walk the town big choice for breakfast, I booked the single room it was quite small, bed was ok hotel is dated in some sections and upgraded in other parts. Bar didn’t have much of a vibe in my opinion. Lots of shopping and various pubs and restaurants to choose from."
"Very disappointed had to pay to park in hotel carpark and was expected to pay to use swimming pool. Feel hotel guests should not have to when already paid to stay . Room and hotel very clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Feel menu could have been better and you should not be charged for more if have allergies.
Central for castle and town"
"Room - We found rooms to be little dated but were very clean ( which for me is the main thing)
Staff - polite, pleasant and helpful
Breakfast - this was little disappointing. We were downstairs early ( 8 ish ) but found not everything to be ready. We made do though with what was there. We should have gone back in after our time in the spa, im sure this would not have been questioned as staff are lovely.
Spa - a lovely experience. Very relaxing and calm atmosphere."
"The Good: The view of the lake was by far the best part of this stay. It’s stunning. The room was also very clean. The room and bathroom were probably the largest I encountered my whole time traveling through Scotland. Very, very spacious and quiet because the hotel is kind of in the middle of nowhere. The bed was decently comfortable.
The Quirks: The hotel is very dated both on the inside and outside. The smells and sights reflect this. There are no elevators so be prepared to lug your bag up and down the stairs. The shower was an experience with the cord to even turn it on then the contraption to adjust the water temperature. The window opened plenty enough to get good air flow since there is no AC, but you can also see your neighbors and they can see you if their blinds/windows are open.
The Meh: There was a kettle for hot water and instant coffee in the room and snacks. There was a television, but it didn’t seem to work no matter what we tried/did, but it might’ve been user error. The room key was attached to this gigantic wood keychain that was super awkward to carry around, but it worked.
Overall, this stay was surprisingly good despite all the quirks. I’d rebook the hotel again just for the view and large room."
"Food wasn’t very good I order burger and chips burger was over cooked and on the dry side, the chips were cremated.
Breakfast was good, staff were great and a lovely quaint place to stay. Will stay again just not sure sure about using the restaurant."
