Short break
We enjoyed taking my dad to the mountains for his 90th birthday. He'd flown over them so many times to the algarve he wanted to see them up close. The hotel and the scenery didn't disappoint.

Great view. Sauna was turned off, and when i complained a staff said was turning it on, and she just disapeared..... Staff not commited to guests!!

Doing the best under the circumstances
The hotel was doing the best it could during the Covid restrictions. We stayed one night and it was obvious the staff were struggling to service the families.

Great Poussada with Excellent Views
Hotel has excellent views. As with other Portuguese Poussadas the staff was welcoming, the restaurant and the included breakfast was very good

The layout of of the hotel is wonderful as every room has a great view down the hillside across the vast plain below. It has a nice old fashioned feel being built in the 1920s and has a touch of the Agatha Christie about it. However the whole hotel has been restored with modern facilities and decor (perhaps the interior decor is a little too modern and plain and doesn’t exploit the period design of the property). Our room was wonderful, large bedroom with balcony, separate dressing room and large well appointed bathroom and for around 220 Euros for 2 nights, that was excellent value (Saturday and Sunday nights in mid August B&B). For those who wanted to use the Spa and treatments I guess it was even more special. The niggles were: - A kettle and tea making facilities were provided in the room for the first night (perfect for Brits), but a charge of 5 Euros for another tea bag and synthetic milk sachet for each subsequent night was petty and absurd. - The restaurant was nice and the food quite good (very good for breakfast) but we were only offered a buffet at 30 Euros per person. Expensive for the quality of food provided (nice but nothing special).

Property set is really breathtaking. However the exterior beauty of this pousada is an illusion. The interior is very flawed. First and foremost never book the second floor. The walls are paper thin. Therefore noise level is very high. We booked 4 nights and only slept 1 night. The reason is because after so so many complaints they had no choice but to change us rooms. Breakfast was good but not very creative. The exact same items every morning. Staff is very friendly and they really try. The problem is management. They do not seem to fully grasp the meaning of “Customer Service”. The staff has no authority. All decisions must be past to management no matter how insignificant the question is. The bathrooms need a renovation. Public areas are very clean and well kept. Try not to book twin beds because the mattresses are not balanced. You could actually end up on the floor and get hurt. Just remember when booking that there is nothing at all around the Pousada. If you need anything at all pick it up in the town of Covilha below before heading up or else it will cost you a lot of money by purchasing everything at the Pousada. I must say the best thing this Pousada has is the “View”, just breathtaking.

People & facilities were nice, just felt that something was missing. Empty hotel, I guess, when other places we stayed at were pretty full. Other pousadas we've stayed in have much more old-building charm plus modern rooms. Here, charm, not so much. Feels like a new building slapped up around an old-style elevator.

This hotel is in the mountains 4,000 feet high. Spectacular views, 2 beautiful pools and lovely bar and dinning room. Once you are there, I dont think many will want to drive back down the narrow road to town for dinner. Breakfast is a nice buffet, but not extraordinary. Our dinners were ok but again not up to expectations for such a grand place. Staff was friendly and helpful but some difficulty with English.

Great views from this lovely hotel. Very helpful staff. Booked a Double/Twin room and I was sure i mentioned I wanted a double in notes on booking. Anyway on arriving at then room it was a twin. I asked at reception if I could change for a double. Was quickly shown a double but it was a smaller room so we decided to stay with the twin beds. By the time I went back to the room only minutes later the twin beds had been stripped and were being converted into a very large double - excellent service. Also had super meal in the hotel restaurant.

Breathtaking
We had no idea of the location of the hotel, so when we drove up to the hotel the view was breathtaking. Staff was friendly, rooms were bright and clean. Restaurant was bright and staff was attentive. Pool area outside had a beautiful view.

Great hotel, poor dining.
Lovely old-style hotel. Large outdoor pool with views across the valley 800 metres below. House Martins swooping back and forth in front of out balcony. Incredibly helpful and friendly staff. BUT dinner was awful, the only really bad meal that we had in Portugal.

Stunning in all Respects
Fabulous hotel, great restaurant and friendly welcoming staff. Nothing is too much trouble! Stunning Location....you must go to the top of the glacier some 2000m up where there is a small Commercial Centre. Hotel has all the facilities you could want for an enjoyable and relaxing break. Only regret was that we stayed for just one night. Will visit again and stay for 2 or 3 nights.

Pretty view, if you don't have car far from any other facilities!!!! Restaurant food expensive and you are stuck here. Beds uncomfortable. Old stuffy hotel in pretty location. Understaffed for checkout. Really? ... Only one person at 9 am for checking out this huge hotel?

Location is great on top of mountain, with nice views. If you want to go up to serra da estrela it is a great place to stay. Pool is much smaller than picture suggest and water in outside pool is freezing. Place used to be a hospital to treat tubercolisis patients. Still feels like a hospital with long narrow hallways. Rooms and bathrooms were spacious. The hospital history might feel a bit creepy for some people.

A great hotel
Arrived late and tired. Staff were very helpful and accommodating. We ate in the restaurant as we were too tired to go out. The food was fantastic. We chose for an a la carte style menu of local dishes. The grounds are nice for a stroll and if you're up early enough the sunrise from the communal balconies is stunning.
