"The staff at El Fuerte were definitely a highlight — very helpful, kind, and supportive throughout our stay. The rooms are a bit outdated, but they were clean and perfectly fine for what you’d expect at this level. There was a slight humid, musty smell at first, but it went away quickly once the AC was running. Overall, I’d rate it about 2.5 stars. Nothing fancy, but comfortable and pleasant — and I’d stay here again. "

"We visited Mahahual for the first time, traveling from Cancun with a stop at Xel-Ha along the way. The property manager was very accommodating and arranged a smooth late check-in for us. My daughter absolutely loved the beach right in front of the hotel, and we also booked an amazing snorkeling tour. While the hotel doesn’t have on-site parking, we found a safe spot by the basketball court just behind the property. We stayed in a double room, which was comfortable and met our needs, with cozy beds for a good night’s rest."

"My wife and I stayed here for a week. We really liked Anna, the manager, but otherwise our stay was terrible. Every night there was a strange man lying in the hammock for our cabana which was about 10 feet from the front door. He would never say hi and he would constantly smoke, which would go through the windows and into our cabana. My wife is allergic to cigarette smoke so this was very frustrating. It would have been nice to actually use the hammock that was there for us. Also, if you want a good night rest DO NOT stay here! It was so loud. There was a dog that belonged to one of the staff members, and it would bark all night long. Not only that, there was a rooster chicken that would crow all night long. We got very little sleep the entire time we were here. There are also a lot of bugs in the cabana-mosquitoes, gnats, and cockroaches. The bugs didn’t bother us near as much as the creepy man out front and the extremely loud noises at night. "
