"The cabins are quite basic, but the setting more than makes up for it—beautiful views and a peaceful location. Ronny is an excellent host and very welcoming."

"We paid months ahead as with many other accommodations, which we've never had any issues with. This place was hard to find so we called to clarify directions, and we were told if we didn't have a 4x4 that it wasn't possible to get to (which was NOT mentioned on the booking site on Expedia) We were left to scramble and find a place to stay last minute which was inconvenient and cost a lot more. We were also informed we would be given the money back but months later we still haven't seen it. "

"Very nice place. We had stayed here before. The view from our room was not as good and we occasionally heard screaming children from our room. It kind of ruined the peaceful atmosphere. "

"The first night, the hotel lost water, so we had to go to bed hot and sticky. Water was back on in morning. Second night we lost cable TV, that was down for two days. Maintenance guy tried what he could, he ended up needing to swap out the actual TV also. Upon arrival The room was clean, as a boutique hotel as expected the rooms are small. The online photos GREATLY EXXAGERATE the size of the property, pool, courtyard & rooms..
The staff was friendly and most were very helpful.
The communication at this hotel is AWEFUL/ NON EXISTENT.
The tour person FRANKLIN @ the hotel was the ABSOLUTE worst, he booked a tour for 8am, did not tell us, so that was cancelled. Went to ask about the other tours I asked about, " oh no I didnt book those, let me try now; OOPS sorry they are sold out" did not give a (curse word) about us missing tours. We did round trip transport from SJO. Arrival no issues, day to leave comes; no word on ride to the airport. I had to call at 6am and ask what time our ride would be at 7:43 they call back and say 8am.. I say NO...
The location of the hotel is somewhat scary, but we had no issues walking up to the main strip of stores and restaurants.
This is the ONLY hotel in the area that looks at all liveable.
As other reviewers have stated, i would stay elsewhere and just visit Jaco as a day or night trip."
"Just got back from a stay at Shana. Both the property and staff were fantastic. They went out of their way to help us… with things related to coming and going, setting up outings for the day that kind of thing. They are responsive to questions asked over the net/expedia which is something other places are not. Much appreciated. Also much appreciated is their handling of our late check in and check out.
The hotel is on a fairly steep hill, so bear that in mind if mobility impaired… that going from your room to the pool/restaurant/reception might be tricky. This is offset by the golf carts that staff regularly have on hand to drive people up and down the hill, much appreciated by my mobility impaired wife. There is a beach that is walkable from the hotel, there are tents and chairs available to rent there along with kayaks and other equipment. It is swimmable and it is snorkel-able (not as clear as I am used to but still very nice to be able to do from the properly). The restaurant is great, the food fantastic and the service quite attentive.
I only have smaller things to be constructive about related to the kitchenette part of our room, like the stove not being levelled and one of the clips for the top of the fridge’s water dispenser missing.
It was a great time, the kids loved it and would readily recommend it. I actually just spent the wait before the last flight telling another family about how nice it was.

"Clean and modernized room and bath. Beautiful location with ocean and mountain views. Hotel is inside the mountain top park with lots of beautiful plants and lovely animals. Love the multiple long and high hanging bridges spanning from tree to tree. Lots of fun to walk, climb, and observe in the park. Delicious breakfast in a lovely open cafe platform with wonderful natural views."
"We had an excellent stay at Costa Verde. Our room was absolutely stunning with a very large balcony and large windows overlooking the ocean. We could hear the ocean waves and every morning we got up at 5:30 in the morning to listen to the birds and enjoy the sunrise. The family suite that we had was clean and beds were very comfortable, and the costa verde grounds had several very nice restaurants with free shuttle transportation offered to the restaurants because of the fact that the property was large with a winding road that made walking even short distances sometimes challenging. There was a very nice pool. The staff in the office were absolutely amazing and Alejandro in particular was extremely helpful in arranging for some daily tours and shuttle transportation for the end of our trip. This location itself is next to the park and there are monkeys and sloths living on the property that you can see from the restaurants or when walking around on the grounds. It is also very close to the beach, although the winding road and the steep hill makes it hard to walk to the beach. There is a convenient bus that you can ride that costs only one dollar and runs every 25 minutes. Would definitely stay at this property again and would highly recommend for others."
"Excellent property, clean room, staff were so kind and helpful, ocean view room overlooking national park. Wonderful vacation all around! Thank you, Mariposa! "
