Steely blue water meets an abrupt end at the thick evergreens on craggy shores at Cape Porpoise in southern Maine. Marine traffic includes pleasure boats and fishing vessels on their expeditions to capture the catch of the day. Let the saltiness in the air serve as a tonic for body and soul.

Cape Porpoise in southern Maine has all the attributes to satisfy sportsmen, adventurers and families looking for personal time and laid-back days. Explore this area where Mother Nature is the main attraction.

The Atlantic Ocean is always close, inviting you to sail and fish or explore its remarkable coastline. Visit nearby Goose Rocks Beach for its wide soft sand beach or go on a boat charter past the offshore Goat Island Lighthouse. View large estates that might be hidden from sight on land.

Seafood is prominent in Maine cuisine, with lobsters, scallops, clams and oysters commonly featured. Pick a picnic table with an ocean view to enjoy freshly cooked lobster dipped in melted butter. Purchase this treat from a roadside stall or try a simpler but equally delicious lobster roll instead.

Stroll through Cape Porpoise for a good sense of renowned New England charm. End your walk on the town’s pier, with fishing boats, ocean-related activities and tides providing a constantly changing seascape.

Walk out on the causeway to Bickford Island, one of many islands marking the entrance to Cape Porpoise Harbor.

Book early during peak season as accommodations are limited in Cape Porpoise or stay 2 miles (3 kilometers) away in Kennebunkport, a village that includes the older Cape Porpoise where Native Americans and English colonists had their original settlements. Nearby Goose Rocks and Kennebunk also have places to stay.

Stay at Cape Porpoise for the kind of New England vacation that you might have dreamed about. Make the fantasy real at this unhurried and unspoiled location on Maine’s coast.
