Bricquebec-en-Cotentin (Manche). Le château médiéval de Bricquebec. La "crypte" (XVe siècle) En réalité, il s'agit de la salle basse de l'ancien logis seigneurial. Le logis seigneurial est édifié dans le dernier quart du XIIème siècle. Il était à l'origine composé de deux bâtiments distincts (aula* et camera* séparées). La partie subsistante du logis (aula), primitivement composée d'un grand hall de plein pied avec bas-côté attenant, a été divisée en deux niveaux au cours du XVème siècle, et son bas-côté supprimé au milieu du XIIIème. Du second bâtiment ne subsiste que le sous-sol (la "crypte) doté d'un voûtement datant du début du XVème siècle. Dans un palais ou une forteresse médiévale, l’aula est la pièce commune, la grande salle où se déroulent les principaux événements de la vie publique d’un seigneur. La "camera" est la partie privative de la demeure seigneuriale. L'habitation seigneuriale comprenait trois parties : la "aula" (salle de réception du public), la "camera" (chambre privative du seigneur), la "cappella" (la chapelle). Bricquebec-en-Cotentin (Manche). Le château (La cour intérieur) La Tour de l'Horloge : Enorme tour rectangulaire avec son clocheton, c'est le châtelet d'entrée. La tour est percée de deux portes, une porte piétonne et une porte charretière. Le châtelet est construit en schiste pour la partie basse et en grès pour les étages. Les entourages de fenêtres sont en calcaire. On accède aux étages par un escalier externe côté cour. La Pyramide de mémoire : Pyramide création de l'architecte-designer Pascal Morabito pour célébrer le passage à l'an 2000. La Pyramide de mémoire contient 2000 objets du souvenir dons des Bricquebétais, douilles, briquets, casques, éclats d'obus, etc. Ces objets sont emprisonnés dans un mortie composé avec du sable des plages du débarquement de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. L'érosion laissera réapparaître les objets aux générations futures. Une partie du chartrier : Bâtiment où étaient conservés les chartes, les titres prouvant les droits seigneuriaux.

Great location for centre of town and bars and restaurants, free parking across the road by the Napoleon statue, good warm welcome, perfect for an overnight night stay. Didn’t try breakfast went to a local cafe with a view of the harbour instead

Very pleasant Normandy town (village) with good dinning opportunities. Easily reached in 25 minutes from Cherbourg. Chateau and its grounds well worth a visit even if not staying in the hotel overnight..
