Beliche Beach is a picturesque cove with soft white sand at the bottom of a set of rocky cliffs. The jagged coastline here is pockmarked with caves and intriguing rock formations that add an extra layer to the stunning scenery of the beach. Relax on the sand and gaze up at the majestic cliffs and verdant vegetation.
Walk down the steep set of steps that lead to the beach. The stairs are fairly arduous so you should bring appropriate footwear. Snap photos of the beach and the Atlantic Ocean on your way down to get images at varying angles.
Join the many surfers who take advantage of the constant swell here. Beachcomb along the strand with your kids in search of shells and other marine treasures. Play in the crevasses and caves that adorn the surrounding cliffs. A large rock formation in the center of the beach extends almost as far as the water line and divides the strand into two equally scenic parts.
These tall walls of rock shelter the beach from wind, making it an ideal spot to have a picnic. The beach also has a grill that is great for barbecues. Sunbathe during the hot Portuguese summer and cool down with a swim in the Atlantic Ocean.
Gather your strength and energy for the ascent back up the steps to the parking lot at the top of the cliffs. It is free to access the beach, which is open to the public at all times. Watch out for falling stones at the foot of the cliffs.
Beliche Beach is northwest of the town of Sagres in the southwestern corner of Portugal. Drive along the coast for 2 miles (3 kilometers) to get here in about 5 minutes and descend the steps to the beach. Leave your car in the parking lot, which is free.
