The Parrett Hotel was a comfortable and welcoming place to stay - We stayed just the one night, but it would be our first choice to stay when we revisit the area and we wished we had booked to stay longer. The owners mentioned that they had organised the hotel to be welcoming and friendly to dogs, as they had found it difficult when travelling with their own dog - and inedeed they had! Our room was very spacious and marvellous value. The bed was comfortable, big TV, lots of floor area and comfy chairs - There was even a dog bed - a towel for the dog's use, dog bowls, poo bags and a bag of treats left for the dog! Outside there is a paved patio garden with lots of cafe style seating, as a fenced in area, so dogs can be let free. This includes a dog waste bin and more poo bags in a dispenser. The car park is not huge, but we had no trouble parking and the Hotel is on the major route through the village, but traffic was light and the room although looking out onto the road was very quiet at night. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was superb, with lots of choices and a huge variety of items (Teas, juices, Marmalades, Jams, Honey, biscuits etc.) laid out before the cooked to order breakfasts(included in the tariff) (Full English/Rolls/Eggs/Porridge etc.) arrived. Did not use the Pub itself - but obviously it's onsite! Its seemed that the owners were going out of their way to make a great experience for people staying and I wish them every success!!

Very quiet and comfortable overnight stay

We needed somewhere in the vicinity so location was my primary objective. Booked two rooms both of which were very clean, spacious and comfortable. Suggest you leave plenty of time for breakfast as it is cooked from scratch. We were in a rush so it seemed to take ages but the results were excellent and I wish we’d had more time to enjoy it. Think someone was away so one person covering all roles. The bar was empty when we there in the early evening and when we got back late at night it was closed so we found it an exceptionally peaceful place to stay

Nice little hotel

Pleasant stay. Only criticism is that my cooked breakfast had part burnt food and toast that was barely toasted.

Pub with motel style rooms

Room was clean and warm; obviously originally a double but containing a single bed, it had lots of storage for one, but no hooks and minimal space to put things in the otherwise excellent ensuite bathroom (splendid walk-in shower). Beware, this inn is not in the pretty town of Beaminster but 10 minutes' drive away in the hamlet South Perrott.

Comfortable but Chilly

We wanted a one night stay in the area we were exploring and this suited our needs fairly well as it wasn't expensive, although slightly further north than expected. The hotel is set in a pretty village and very quiet. Our room was large and well equiped with all we needed, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom looked recently updated and very nice. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast too. Our one niggle was the heating. Having turned the radiator to its highest setting it still didn't heat the room and we sat watching TV in our coats and I went to bed in jumper!!

30 miles from Portland

I booked direct with expedia by phone as my broadband was not working. I wanted a hotel on Portland but the one I wanted would not take a single night booking at weekend. The expedia rep. recommended this as "next best" - it is 30 miles away!!! Check in at 6 pm, check out by 11 am = 16 hours for £140 - rip off. Room dirty - daddy longlegs in bedroom and bathroom. Edge of door frame filthy. £20 charge for cleaning as we had a small dog. Assuming maximum they pay cleaner is £5/ hr that is additional 4 hours cleaning for one small dog. RIP OFF Room, bathroom and second bedroom - NO WINDOWS!!! Roof light above bed and glass door was single size. Extractor fan in bathroom did not work = no ventilation at all. Could not see TV from in bed. Dinner menu - only meat was gammon. There were some meat pies on offer. No puddings at all.

Great place

We stayed for a couple of nights for a nearby wedding. It's a very quiet place as you'd expect in Dorset. We spent the Friday evening with the locals and ate there too. Great food so you don't need to go anywhere else if you don't want to and great breakfast too. The photos actually let the place down it's a lot nicer than they are in the current pictures with very large modern rooms. Thanks very much guys it was fun!

one night's stay in the Dorset countryside

Jane and staff were lovely; but children's beds in the family room were squeaky every time they wriggled at night which disturbed them. The children's bed bases were loose laid and made up with odd bits of wood. Might have been a problem with older/bigger children. Shower room / toilet door catch was not latching and no lock. Cereals offered were mainly Waitrose Essentials range; good quality and not a problem to grown up guests but todays children are very "brand savvy" and to have had the cereals in storage containers rather than their boxes would have encouraged the children to eat them. They did really enjoy their stay and their meals. We know these are all minor things, but the friendliness easily made up for these small niggles. We would happily stay again.

Credit to Jayne.

The landlady Jayne was extremely friendly, from the moment we arrived to the time we left. Without knowing, she had reallocated us to the family room from the twin room booked due to an admin error. The menu for meals was varied, giving sufficient choice & were served in ample time; all breakfasts were pre-ordered with & prepared by Jayne herself. A little work needs some attention; the security lock needs fixing securely to the door leading to the rooms & possibly a carpet on the stairs. Apart from that, we enjoyed our stay at The Coach & Horses, which as its name suggests provides a rustic rural feel, somewhere we would stay again.

Could do better

The place was very 'tired' looking. The room was adequate but the entrance area unfinished and half painted. While not expensive we have stayed in much better value places for the same price. We had an unmemorable breakfast and chose to eat dinner elsewhere. Rather disappointing as the pub area has potential and the staff were pleasant. Wouldn't stay there again.

Not a comfortable bed and breakfast

Although an old building it has gone well beyond the stage of quaint and is in serious needs of updating. In the bar area it was so cold we had to leave our coats on the whole evening. The room was okay but once again suffered from cold, heating appeared to be erratic, coming on and off at various stages of the day, there is a hand written note left in the room saying there will be no heating on at night. Breakfast was poorly presented, once again the room was so cold. Although in need of updating the bar and breakfast area felt unclean and unloved. At breakfast it was strange having breakfast with a motorbike parked in the same room, apart from being a ridiculos place to put a motorbike it is a serious health and safety issue leaving a vehicle with petrol in a residential area. Oh no mobile phone coverage on two different networks I use.

Would recommend this hotel!

For the price we paid we got a whole lot! Jane phoned me a couple of days before to confirm the time we were arriving and to make sure there was someone waiting for us. We were upgraded to a family room (from a double room), the bed was comfortable, the room was well kept. I specifically liked their shower. We had a good and restful sleep. We were also served a nice, big, hot breakfast and we were ensured that we had enough food! The place is quite dated and may need a few renovations here and there but for the price you pay, this was well worth it! I would recommend this Inn to everyone, the hosts were very hospitable and ensured we had a good stay.
