Hotels near Barelang Bridge
Barelang Bridge is actually a series of half a dozen bridges which travel between the Barelang Islands. Before the construction of Barelang Bridge began in 1992, none of these Indonesian islands located across the Singapore Strait from Singapore had any roads or significant transportation infrastructure. Many locals still refer to Barelang Bridge as Jembatan Habibie after the doctor who oversaw the bridge's construction.
It takes less than an hour to drive from one end of the 50kms long Barelang Bridge to the other. The tallest and best known part of the Barelang Bridge is Tengku Fisabilillah, a 642m cable-stayed bridge between the islands of Batam and Tonton. This particular bridge is especially popular among tourists because it stands nearly 40m above some of the area's most breath-taking island and water views.
The other Barelang Bridge spans are the 420m Tonton-Nipah cantilever bridge between the islands of Tonton and Nipah, the 270m Setoko-Nipah girder bridge between Nipah and Setoko islands, and the 365m Setoko-Rempang cantilever bridge between Setoko and Rempang islands. The nearest airport, Hang Nadim, is located less than 30kms northeast of the Barelang Bridge.
