"The room I was in was very worn. There was peeling paint on one of the window areas, chipped counter tops, a very saggy sofa and mattress, and no thin shades or curtains to allow light in without exposing the guest to people walking by the window. The curtains were light blocking, so the choice is to have people able to see in as they walked by or keep the curtains closed and have a dark room hat required artificial light. Not great for waking up in the morning. The “breakfast” was coffee or black tea, chocolate muffins, and granola-type bars. Nothing fresh. I brought my own food for breakfast knowing there was a kitchenette. The challenge there was that it had no cups, plates, or utensils. To add to the experience, the walls and ceiling are very thin so you hear people walking about or people in the next room. And, due to it’s proximity to the airport, the sounds of jets taking off is very loud and begins before 6:00AM. The staff was fine, but didn’t make up for the less than average facility and amenities. I would not recommend this location to anyone who expects more comfort. "

"Front desk staff were very nice and welcoming. Lobby seemed decent enough. Never ate any food although I did receive a complimentary breakfast ticket which was nice. Room was ok. First floor at end of property. "Water view" was waterway view with buildings across the street and a homeless mini camp. The room's carpet was stained in multiple places, some of which were maybe food or other fluids that stood out on the dark carpet. I'm thinking they could have been cleaned up. Then there were other darker stains. It's either time for new carpet or much better cleaning protocols. When I exited the bed, and used my shoes, they stuck to the ground. Again, the carpet clearly needed attention. The bathroom towels had long hairs in them, as did the shower - never a good experience. Outlets were loose. The bed had a very clear divet in the middle, so I slept on one side. If I was staying for multiple nights, I definitely would have asked for another room. One night, and barely that I just dealt with it. Also, the cleaning staff were rather loud in the morning. Glad to know they get along and enjoyed seeing each other, but it was 7am and they continued off and on til at least 8 am! I can't say I've ever heard the cleaning staff in other hotels I've visited in my 40 years of traveling."

"Room is clean but bedding has stain. Coffee machine and cookies on the front desk. Location is perfect and price is good for a visit to UC Berkeley."

"Breakfast was standard Hampton, and entrees were different each day. Location is quiet, away from the large group of airport hotels. It is in the takeoff pattern for Oakland, but an extra layer of window glass in the guest rooms kept the airplane noise to a whisper. Our only recommendation is to improve the room lighting, which is very subdued."

"The only that I noticed was that the online pictures of the lobby and the rooms were not current. Carpeting throughout was in need of either replacement or a deep cleaning. But other then that the rooms were clean, had plenty of towels and most importantly for me was the shower, toilets, and bathroom floor were very clean as was the bedding."

"I have stayed at the Coral Reef many times over the years. It is a classic 1930’s/1940’s motel so things are a bit old. But the price, value, and location are great for a traveler who enjoys a place with character and history. The website suggests they have a “business center,” but they do not have a room with a computer and printer you can access. But the staff at front desk were very helpful and printed out my conference papers for me. I had a great stay"

"Room was clean. Toilet bowl cover had to be moved in order to flush. There were abandoned cars and homeless people living in the parking lot. I had to leave my ID in exchange to use the iron and board - and I had to go get it and walk it back… super weird. The lobby was closed to guests, so just a walk up window from the parking lot. If staff is scared, makes me feel unsafe. The AC unit in the room was damaged, and the heater didn’t work - I was freezing. The phone was ripped out of the wall, so I couldn’t call the front desk. Also, they only provide a bar of soap - and I forgot shampoo. UGH "

"Weekend stay. Staff was gracious and on top of everything. EV chargers conveniently right out front and nearby although they're not fast charging :(."
