We just stayed two nights at HMS and would have stayed longer if were able to make the logistics work. The hacienda is a draw for all travelers; inexperienced travelers (like us) will appreciate the complimentary airport rides, appealing and affordable menu (w/vegetarian options), truly amazing views and scenery, wi-fi/streaming TVs, and genuinely friendly hosts. Experienced travelers will enjoy all of the above, plus the seclusion of being off the beaten path, the place's history, and a distinctly unique location.
To be clear, this is not a cookie-cutter, hotel-type experience - instead it is a countryside retreat, one drenched in palpable history. Instead of just knowing the history (no spoilers here, but it's very interesting (kinda crazy in a good way, actually)), you will "feel" the history. The property still features many original items from when it was built, and you absorb not only a different place, but also a different era. A very unique experience, for sure, and Dianne and Cordell are amazing hosts. Despite our brief stay, we felt at home.
Oh, I forgot to mention - who doesn't love kitties?! The hacienda has outdoor cats as permanent guests. For feline-lovers, it is a special perk. But, if you are not a fan of cats, they stay around the edges of the home and are not at all pests. We loved them! Hi, Mavis!
In summary, Hacienda Montana Sonadora is truly beautiful and unforgettable, and writing this makes me wish we still there. Past and present collide at HMS!
