On our many roadtrips through Scandinavian countries there is the constant of booking hotels that can be either hit or miss. We found gems in the middle of nowhere we want to get back to. We have found places like Fosen Fjord Hotel.
Åfjord is beautiful. Small town but the nature around here is stunning. The hotel is easily found. Reception area is nice. When appointed a room, we had to go to the basement. The dark entry had us awaiting muggers around every corner, but we survived. The room is in a small corridors that feels like “the backroom” but more eerie.
The rooms on first glance looks decent. Second inspection reveals mold, paint splattered everywhere as if a visually impaired person was tasked to update the place. There are no curtains only vitrage) so people outside can look in. The bathroom is a typical Scandinavian one with vinyl floors, but decorated with moldy spots. No worries: the shower is cold so you won’t be long in the bathroom anyway.
Both of us woke up with headaches (mold perhaps?) but opening the door would also enable bugs or burglars to get in without any effort.
Breakfast was served a a room, that like the rest of the hotel does look decent in pictures, but in reality are not well taken care of at all. The chairs are so dirty you would take another cold shower just to rinse it off once you sat in them. The food of the buffet is reasonable.
It is visible that at some point money was invested to get this place updated. After that, interest was lost.
