"Pool nice but surrounding wood area is dangerous. The beach in front was dirty. If you sit at pool side, hawkers lean in and shout at you from the beach, including a man with a performing monkey on a leash! Very friendly and welcoming staff, excellent locally sourced food, a great environment policy and the amazing 100m swimming pool. Its not a family hotel as such, however there was a babysitting service and a good choice of food for children. The pool is 4m deep (no 'shallow end' although there are steps). The suites have a twin room suitable for children. No beach, although limited watersports on the lagoon.

I stayed at this hotel because it was reasonably close to the airport, and on the beach, and would have been happy with something quite basic, but the quality of service and facilities was more than I expected. It is also the first hotel I have ever stayed in that outlines a clear policy of zero tolerance of child abuse and gives directions to guests as to what they can do if they observe something untoward. Stayed on our last night in Sri Lanka as a stopover on the way to the airport. Can't remember exactly but it's about a 20 min drive. Hence can't comment on the local area and what's around. The hotel however is wonderful. Old colonial building tastefully renovated with great attention to detail. Food was also very good and reasonably priced. A real bit of luxury in great grounds.
