the staff at Lord Nelson Brewery were so wonderful, and helpful, our room had everything we needed. and the bed was very comfortable. we loved everything about Lord Nelson Brewery, except maybe the stairs. we would book again with Lord Nelson Brewery, if we ever return to Sydney, Australia.

Beer and food were great, but it’s a shame the accommodations did not live up to the same standard. My husband woke up to a cockroach on his pillow after only two nights there which made it extremely difficult to enjoy the rest of our stay. It was difficult to communicate with staff on the day of the incident because office hours were closed during the weekend and by the time we made it back from tours during the week. Bar staff was too busy and not very friendly to even bother with either. We mentioned it upon check-out but there was very little sense for a sincere apology. Unfortunately, for this reason I could never recommend staying here but stop by for a beer or meal if you’re in the area.

Francsico,Thank you for staying us with and posting your review.Contrary to many peoples view, Cockroaches are not as harmful as perceived in terms of hygiene or other associated rumours. They are busy people doing there bit too keep the planet balanced. In Australia, we are used to living alongside them and am sorry for some sneaking past our regular cleaning regime and pest controls. We apologise to you and the supposed lack of interest from busy staff on the day. Safe journeys.

The Lord Nelson is a gem of a hotel, with generous sized rooms and genuinely wonderful staff. What I really liked was the pub -- great beer and an authentic Sydney vibe. The location also is hard to beat. You will encounter noise, both from the pub until it closes and then from the road, which is busy from early. So, bring your ear plugs. I also wish the shower water pressure was stronger and more consistent. But overall, the Lord Nelson delivers what it promises: great location, solid value and a fabulous pint at the end of your day!

The staff are lovely, so helpful and friendly. The food and drink is good and the room was lovely, and so well placed for the beautiful and vibrant Rocks area. However, it is noisy with all the traffic till the early hours

As you would expect for a property that’s been around since 1841. Not luxurious but clean and close to the city. No elevator so it’s that’s important to you then don’t book here.

We enjoyed our stay. The room was a little dated and carpet a little worn, but overall the facilities were perfectly located for our needs. The pub below the rooms closes relatively early, so no noise issues. It is also one of the most historic pubs in Sydney.

I stayed two nights at the hotel. Great location in Sydney. Nice mix of locals and travelers. Have a pint at the bar and make conversation with those around you. You’ll learn what a small world we live in. Rooms were clean. A bit of a pain to carry luggage up stairs but when you’re in a historical hotel, what do you expect?

My favourite place to stay in Sydney with that old time charm. It was good exercise climbing the 3 flights of stairs up to the room (no elevators) so maybe not suitable for the elderly or those needing accessible access, but otherwise great. As the oldest brewhouse hotel in Australia, their traditional beer style recipes have been developing since 1841, and the ales are all the finest quality. The chef is excellent producing some of the best pub grub anywhere as well as superb fine dining in the Brasserie. My only downside is that they could improve their wifi, so if you need the internet maybe fully top up max data on your cell phone plan.

A great find with wonderful old world charm. I loved the proximity to the Rocks and Sydney attractions just be prepared for a four story walk up.

This was a very nice hotel. It’s in a historic building which was very nice and the location was excellent for walk ability. They do not have an elevator, but the staff will help you with your luggage. The pub has decent food too, however, no breakfast is served. Love the huge bathtub.

The Lord Nelson is a diamond in the rough. When we first walked into what I would have to say was "a real pub" with all the smells, decor and ambience of a very old well-established location, my first thought was, "What have I gotten us into?' Thank goodness there was a strong young man who carried our luggage to the 4th floor (no elevators); it was up carpeted stairs that had seen better days. Hot, muggy and musty. Then the door was opened to our room. I think my jaw dropped. Air conditioned, 4 piece bath, king bed, chairs, an extra lounge. There were 4 dormer windows with cushioned seats. What character! It was a most comfortable and inviting room. A pearl in an oyster. Staff could not have been more helpful and a bar to round out the amenities. Would definitely recommend this hotel!

Built in 1841 oldest Hotel in Sydney with its own Brewery.excellent local brewed in case beer and award winning. Food was great Pub food too. Down side no lift to the upper floors walk the stairs, staff helped with the bags.

Great old, cool and historic property. Only drawback is that they don't have a lift (elevator) so be prepared to haul your luggage up 1, 3 or 3 flights depending on your room location. Great exercise! Still worth it. Very clean and accommodating property.... held our luggage when we arrived early and after an early check out too.

The hotel is very clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Had our room ready early knowing that we were tired from 23 hours of traveling. Would recommend both the hotal and the bar!! A must dee in Sydney!!

We loved the oldest of the property and the location was outstanding! There is no LIFT (elevator) at this property so we will have to take your luggage up a minimum of two flights of stairs. I obviously misread because I was sure it said there was a lift there.

While the property was charming, the rooms did not seem clean. The comforter was absolutely disgusting with visible stains. Street noises were loud. They were in a the middle of renovations so there was work debris all over the place and a very heavy paint smell. But worst of all, I would say the service was quite indifferent. Our friends left their jackets and neck pillows there and the staff was unable to find it and it didn’t not seem like much effort was made to track them down. Would not stay here again.

Thankyou for your review. We are Extremely surprised you found our rooms not up to your expectations. We pride ourselves on the the cleanliness and general upkeep of our Hotel and accommodation in general. Of course in a City we do have some Street noise but generally not a level to bother guests. As for the service as you would note by previous reviews our service is always intended to be courteous, welcoming, and attentive. I can assure you on inspection no jackets or neck Pillows were found in our rooms and can only assume they were perhaps left behind on your travels. We hope the rest of your journey is a pleasant and enjoyable one.

Great experience at a beautiful classic hotel that is well appointed. The staff was incredibly friendly and allowed us to store our luggage very early and even check in a little early so we can rest from our long flight.

Gorgeous property with an unbeatable location. Check in was a bit confusing as we didn't know where to go or who to speak to. Same with check out, we left the keys with the cleaning lady as there was no other option given. Room was a bit pokey but big bathroom and good amenities expect the TV didn't work. For a few nights, we were happy and comfortable.

This hotel is over the oldest pub in Sydney. Despite that, there was no noise from the pub at all in our room. The room was small and a little dated (worn out carpet, in conveniently placed tv, no microwave) but so perfectly located close to The Rocks, Circular Quay and CBD that it was well worth it. We could walk or catch a ferry/bus to all of the sights we wanted to see. The staff was excellent! One word of caution is that all the rooms are walk up access only. We had very heavy bags and were on the top floor. Thankfully 1 of the staff helped us carry 1 of our large suitcases. After long days of walking and exploring Sydney(with multiple hills and steps) having to climb the stairs at the end of the day was a challenge. Having said that, I needed to get my quads and glutes in shape for the beach, so served a purpose! Overall, would recommend Lord Nelson to anyone in decent shape looking for a well situated location
