Very nice mattress and bathroom was larger than my room back home. Buffet breakfast was great and even to go packing for later enjoying of buffet. Great persons everywhere in hotel. Nice all around.

The hotel is very nice, the rooms are big and breakfast is good. The service was a little bit slow but not out of the ordinary. One thing that was not so nice is that the hotel room although it was non-smoking smelled heavily like cigarettes. I am quite sensitive about that and this was not pleasant.

Very nice business hotel near the Domestic Airport
First time staying at this spacious hotel at Hong Qiao area. Great with very spacious room and hotel surroundings.

This place was miserable. The internet cut out every five or ten minutes. The refrigerator barely lowered drinks below room temperature. The "gym" had a few home-level pieces of equipment that were either broken or severely run down. The service was generally indifferent at best. While the cable guide says there are several english language stations, there really aren't. Not even news stations. Several of the venues like the second floor bar and restaurant were closed all three days I was there without explanation. The location is awful. It is facing an elevated highway (actually it is very nearly under the highway) and there is nothing nearby. While it looks to be close to the convention center, it is impossible to walk there because there is no way over the river without walking along the highway.

Very nice, clean and no mold or smoke smell
I was concerned as I had read reviews of other on the smell of mold in the room. I am not sure if I got a good room or if they had replaced the carpets, but the room didn't smell like mold or smoke, which is rare. I didn't have a sinus headache the whole time. Overall it is comfortable, breakfast is good and the staff is great. I was there during the cold season and the room was nice and warm. One major issue is that the Wi-Fi signal is unusable. The internet is good and decent speed, but the signal is in and out. If you plug into the wired connection behind the desk, it is fine. I used a small portable router that I carry with me while travelling that covers the room, so for me it was fine.

Big name hotel but not so great features
Shower experience is a mess; water gets out everywhere during shower because the glass door didn't seal water completely plus the water drainage didn't work properly on the outside shower area. Room lighting feels dark. Overall, the hotel seems a bit run down even with the Howard Johnson name. Perhaps, it explained the lower price.

Nice place for an overnight before a flight.
It was clean and luxurious. The cleanest hotel i have stayed at in China, where even 4 star hotels are worn-out and grimy. It is close to the airport. A 30RMB taxi ride. And I took the airport shuttle service back. But it is under an overpass in the middle of nowhere. So don't expect to eat anywhere other than the hotel. There is a KTV as part of the hotel. Out of curiosity, I asked how much. 600Rmb for a room with a girl. Yes, that kind of girl. I guess it's common in China.

Good hotel near Hong Qiao Airport, but too far from Shanghai downtown!
I just stayed here for a night to catch a flight from Shanghai. It's very close to Hong Qiao airport and hence a fairly isolated neighborhood with minimal public transit availability, and too far from Shanghai downtown. However, the hotel looks nothing less than a royal palace from the outside as well as inside. Rooms, staff and services were also quite good.

very convenant for a late night arrival and early deparure,, very close to the airport, but the directions in Chinese givenfor the taxi were not complete and the taxi driver took a long (probbably in purpose to charge more). Breakfast was very average.

The hotel was good for the rate I paid, The rate quote over the phone was double of what I was able to get over the internet. No where to eat lunch or diner, only very limited room service. the internet can be a problem in some rooms, hotel very nice, price very good

Nicely placed close to Hongqiao AP, Metro and Rail
Third time I have stayed here as it is close to AP, metro and Rail. The Hotel is a pleasant place to stay, good rooms and pleasant staff. Excellent Breakfast Buffet. The main restaurant was not up to the standard of the rest of the Hotel. The Shuttle bus is due for an upgrade, and one of the drivers was at times a bit uncooperative.

The hotel's lobby is beautiful, but it doesn't translate to the rooms. The carpet in my room was utterly filthy and it was hard to avoid. I was charged twice for the continental breakfast, even though it was in my original bill. I wouldn't recommend this particular HoJo to anyone.

I have stayed here previously (2 years ago) and much to my disappointment the hotel has lost it's way somewhat or certainly for foreign business travellers. The most critical element of my business trips are the ability to keep updated and communicate effectively. The need for wifi (preferably free) is always no1 on my agenda as the rooms only need to be ok as they tend to be for single nights and I am awake for most of them anyway which does not help my mood when I cannot get wifi in my room - it is there you just can't get it and if you do you can't keep it! Meals in the lobby bar are very basic fair (avoid the pizza like the plague) this is is tidy hotel and the rooms are good and is great for internal flights and train travel as the added bonus is the shuttle bus so not all bad but they really need to sort the wifi and their ability to communicate in English to resolve issues is limited so 3:30am in the lobby ( where the wifi is perfect) it is then

Lovely hotel, a 15 min taxi ride from hotel, after waiting 30 mins for a taxi it was a relief to get there! Great staff who had no record of my booking but it was not a problem for them. Room really comfortable with separate sitting area but the TV can't be seen from there! Restaurant closed for evening meal but had a wide choice of food from the lobby bar.

Howard Johnson is Old World décor but with mod cons. Staff were polite and spoke quite good English. Only stayed one night but would stay again at the right price. Has free shuttle to and from the airport Terminal 2, However the airport itself has a free shuttle to and from the terminals 1 & 2. Did not have time to discover much around the Hotel area but did not see any restaurants near the Hotel on the way to the airport, approx. 20mins. Did not have any concerns with the room.

Will not return unless they clean the carpets.
The carpets in the rooms were both very stained. The rooms were musty smelling. The hotel lobby is very grand and nice. They should re-direct the maintenance money for the lobby to the rooms. The location is close to airport but nothing else. Food options on-site are limited.

The staff were outstanding in sorting out train tickets, solving problems with my China mobile etc... Excellent hotel, but you'd need a reason to be based there as quite far away from the best parts of Shanghai

Nice Hotel but TERRIBLE Management
It is clear that the owners did their best to build a nice hotel and the girl at the frond desk is very professional but WATCH OUT & BE CAREFUL because when we called to arrange our hotel stay, we were told by the hotel manager that this hotel has a free shuttle and to call the hotel from the airport because the hotel has a free shuttle that would come to pick us up. When we called the hotel, from the airport they did not answer. We discovered that this hotel does NOT have a free shuttle from the main airport (they offer a shuttle from a different small airport). So we had to take a taxi but when our taxi called this hotel to get directions ... the hotel did not answer their phone. Our taxi driver called this hotel many, many times but it did not answer ... ever. After our taxi driver finally found this hotel, the management pretended like we did not call and almost accused of of lying but when they checked their phone system, they apologized because they realized that we had called multiple times. The hotel manager offered to refund our taxi fee and said he give the refund to us the next morning. When we approached the hotel manager the next morning to get the taxi refund, he hid from us and tried not to pay us the refund. This management team smiled and said nice words but they were deceitful and dishonest in many ways. VERY BAD!!!

Great Hotel to Connect with Domestic Flights
We were more than satisfied with our short stay at this hotel. It is perfectly located to connect with domestic flights. The complimentary shuttle bus was much appreciated and worked perfectly for us. The hotel fittings and decor are of the highest standard as is the service provided by all staff that we interacted with - also they spoke excellant English. We also found the room rate very competitive for such a quality hotel. The location well away from the main tourist sites in Shanghai could be a problem for guests intending to stay for several days. We travelled for over 6 weeks, staying in a range of 4 & 5 star hotels.This hotel compared more than favourably with almost all of these other establishments. It was a most pleasing experience despite us having some reservations before our arrival and after reading some other reviews posted on your website. We will most certainly use this hotel again on our future visits to China.
