Historical Center Travel Guide

Seville
Historical Center
Go on an adventure through the ages when you visit the historical churches, palaces, plazas and mansions of Seville’s ancient heart.

Visit Seville's Historical Center to explore incredible sights from times past. Attractions include the largest gothic cathedral in the world, winding medieval alleys, mudejar palaces and ancient churches. Spend at least a couple of days in the Historical Center to discover the most emblematic and beautiful places of the city.

Tour centuries-old churches and palaces for architectural gems and art treasures. Marvel at the elaborate altarpieces of the Anunciacion Church (Iglesia de laAnunciación). Explore the chambers and salons of Seville Town Hall and appreciate the majesty of the baroque architecture of Salvador Church on Salvador Plaza.

Browse collections of art, antiquities and porcelain at the 16th-century Condesa de Lebrija Palace and be wowed by the gothic altarpieces inside the 14th-century San Pedro Church.

For excellent views of Seville’s old Jewish quarter, known as Santa Cruz, Climb the steps of the Giralda bell tower. The 12th-century bell tower is attached to the Cathedral of Seville, a vast gothic wonder with 80 chapels.

Wander through picturesque squares, such as the Plaza de San Francisco and the Plaza de Santa Cruz, both of which are lined by historical landmarks. Make your way to the Triunfo Plaza which sits between iconic buildings, including the cathedral and the Real Alcázar. This fortified palace dates back to the 10th century and encompasses ornamented rooms and buildings in several styles such as baroque, gothic and mudejar.

Enjoy snails, anchovies, octopus and other typical Sevillian tapas dishes in the historical center’s bars and restaurants. Shop for souvenirs, clothes and arts and crafts in the independent stores of Calle Sierpes and nearby streets.

Among the many other highlights of a visit to the old quarter is the Casa de Murillo. This museum is dedicated to the 17th-century baroque painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo and is housed in the mansion where he once lived.

Reach Seville’s historical center by bus, taxi, tram, metro or car. Street parking is limited at most times of the year so if you are driving, it’s easiest to pay for parking in garages inside and outside of the old quarter. You can easily travel around the Historical Center on foot as many of the attractions are within proximity of each other.
