Friendly staff; basic amenities in room, no tea, coffee facilities in room or iron or even hangers for clothing. Tea/ Coffee machine in lobby beyond lacking. Not value for money paid. Only redeeming feature, 5 mins walk from St Peter’s Square.

The staff here were most helpful. The general look is great, the position is fantastic. There are however a number of things that could be improved and opportunities apparently missed. The less expensive rooms, certainly, could do with a facelift, both rooms we looked at had greasy marks above the beds where heads had rested although floors were clean, linen was good. There is a lovely cloistered garden but this can only accessed through the restaurant which has limited opening, seeming mostly to concentrate on weddings. If the restaurant was open for lunch and onwards I'm sure there would be plenty of covers.

well located, friendly staff and willing to help. however the wifi signal is very bad, sometimes it does not work and if the signal works it is weak, even the wifi signal is deficient in the hotel lobby. The other bad thing is that you have to create an account with your email to access the wifi signal. The other bad thing is the breakfast buffet, the selection is poor and little varied, you have no choice of hot dishes only limited to cereal, bread, hard-boiled egg, jams, cakes, coffee, orange juice.

Charming Hotel near Saint Peter
This is my second time at this hotel. I love the conviinience off being so close to everything. The charm of this place is it’s history. Needs some updating but it is clean and the staff is nice.

The staff was really helpful. Margarita who check us in was wonderful. Gave us recommendations for places to see and places to eat. The hotel is wonderful really close to the Vatican and transportation. We book again on this hotel on our next visit.

The old monastery near Vatican City
The old Monastery, not flamboyant, but with a simple elagance. The stall was friendly and helpful. Free parking in Rome is hard to find, Hotel Columbus has it!

No hot water..no discount?
We had no hot water for an entire day and no discount was offered. After a long day of traveling, that was very inconvenient. I realize that problems happen, but to not offer a discount is unacceptable. Broken light that had a stand that was ready to break off at any moment. Called maintenance, but lamp never fixed.

This was a perfect choice for our stay in Rome. Two blocks from the Vatican, wonderful food, charming ambiance, staff was very helpful. This is a 500 year old monastery converted to a hotel. Our room was a suite, very large. Stunned us when we walked in! Only complaint was that there was a bathtub with a hand held shower to rinse, no overhead holder. Awkward. I would return in a heartbeat.

Excellent service and very friendly
Excellent help and advice given. Very helpful and friendly with allowing us to leave the car in the car park even though we had checked out. The hotel was right outside the Vatican City so it was possible to miss long queues for the basilica. Make sure you leave plenty of time to get to the local eateries early to avoid being told you can only have salad or pizza.

Not a good experience
I had booked a room for two people, when I got there it only showed for one. I was charged extra 25 euros per night per room. ( it cost an extra 100 euros for two rooms) My daughter's room had no air, and the air only runs at specific times during the day. Great location but very dated, I would not stay here again.

Perfect location near St. Peter's.
Highly professional and courteous staff, comfortable very old historic building. Comfortable in every respect with one advisory: air conditioning only operates part of each day and night. Oh can request a room with its own cooling unit; in summer you would want to do so. Otherwise, top notch.

Weekend Break in Rome
The hotel was recommended to us by a friend. The location is great for the Vatican and well placed for buses to most of the attractions not within walking distance.

Beautiful location almost next door to Vatican and historic building with very grand dining room. However bedroom was very tired, inadequate heating and toilets that wouldn't flush properly. Furniture in rooms very tired (and I don't mean antique!) Disappointing other than location

Rundown and overpriced
While this hotel was in an excellent location near the Vatican, it's very rundown and needs updating. Our room was at the end of two long hallways at the end by the stairs. I was glad of that since it meant close emergency access. There was no way to lock the room from the inside. There was a pretty courtyard outside our window however. Bathroom was large and adequate. Bed was very hard and coverlet had seen better days. The worst thing was that, at 9 am while we were getting dressed to check out, a loud insistent pounding came at our door. I do mean loud. We were 2 single women staying alone and there was no way I was opening the door. I politely said "buongiorno?" All I got was a loud muttering in Italian and a distinct "dirty Americanos" and stomping away. What the heck? The manager at the front desk said it was probably the mini-bar guy. What? Wouldn't he say mini-bar or buongiorno or something? We also heard speaking going on almost all night. I assume it was coming from the Vatican or the courtyard, we couldn't tell. Creepy. Walls like paper.

This hotel is within easy walking distance of the Vatican. There are many excellent restaurants and cafes nearby. On the downside, you are constantly accosted by hawkers touting "Skip the Line" and "Hop-on-hop-off Bus Tour" tickets.

Almost touching the Vatican
The hotel was within very easy distance of the Vatican and it's museums. We were within walking distance of public transport. The staff at the hotel were pleasant friendly and informative, never making you feel like a nuisance, they were all brilliant. The room was spacious and well appointed with a lovely view of a nearby church. The bed was comfortable and the sheets and towels changed each day. There is a small bar/room next to the hotel and the noise levels from this were a little intrusive but not overly and it finished at a reasonable time. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to have a central base within Rome, we will certainly use it again (next year).

Some reception staff are not helpful at all. The managers seems to be unaware of issues being reported to the staff especially reception staff. Overall - the hotel locations is really good, the rooms are very basic but the level of service seems to be the worst I have ever seen.

The hotel has a friendly staff and is a very historic building at the footsteps of Vatican City, but that's where it's benefits end. The rooms and bathrooms are completely outdated, air conditioning works only when it wants to. We stayed there for 3 days, had no hot water for 2 of the day, and the toilet was broken in our room. Felt more like a 2 star note than a 4 star one.

The hotel is a little old and needs some doing up, but it was kept clean by the cleaners (daily). The room was very basic but comfortable, We did have the continental breakfast which I would recommend because there was not very many places on that side of the river you could eat unless you find your way around the back of the Vatican, where the maps don't go where there is a run of shops and some fast food restaurants. The pizza/Italian places we ate at were all over the bridge down the side streets. The placement of the hotel is great, if you are prepared to walk you can get to all the sights on the map which you are given at the hotel, we were only there for three days and did all the sights in two day walking, we went inside the Vatican, Collusseum, Castel sant Angelo and Pantheon and also spent a bit of time at the Trevi Fountain, as well as all the other sights. The rooms were very basic but comfortable and in need of re painting and tidying up.

Great location just steps from the Vatican.
This was a great hotel for our 1 night stay. Could have easily spent another few nights here. We were travelling with 2 adults and 2 children 14 & 12. We had an "apartment" suite, which was great, separate bedrooms! It was very hot outside, 40*C, and they did have portable air conditioners in each room. Definitely a help, although they were struggling to maintain a cooler temperature. Overall, happy with this hotel.

We chose this hotel because it has free parking, but it is an excellent hotel literally steps away from the Vatican. The room was comfortable and spacious, even though the furnishings wee very simple. We could see the Vatican dome from our window and had a lovely view of the sunset. Staff were helpful, efficient and friendly.

Centrally located Columbus
The Hotel Columbus is ideally located for a city break in the centre of Rome. It is easily accessible by all means of public transport and has its own parking lot for those who hire a car. It is within easy reach of the sophisticated shopping area and popular tourist sights. It is a few metres from the Vatican and a short walk from the fascinating Vatican museum.

Don't book or you will regret
Don't know where the positive reviews are coming from,this hotel is not even 2 star, here is my experience: ACs are inside the rooms and sounds like a train, room window is always open due to the AC exhaust pipe, the ceiling fun doesn't work, bathroom shower doesn't work and the small old tube tv doesn't work. if you ask for help, the answer will be, we will send someone, who will never show.

AC barely works. Heat is un bearable.
The outside temperature during our stay was 38 degrees Celcius and this hotel only turns on the air conditioning (for the whole hotel) between the hours of 8pm to 2am and even when it is on the air barely blows cold which made the temperature unbearable. We had to resort to cold showers for relief and as a result we actually checked out at 4am. During the summer it is not uncommon for Rome to be this hot on a regular basis. I would not stay here again.

Stay here and see the Vatican
We stayed at the Hotel for 3 nights during our recent visit to Rome The proximity to the Vatican and the historic nature of the hotel, were our reasons for choosing the Columbus Hotel. pros - location, room size, comfortable beds, front desk service, art work throughout the hotel. Cons - small shower stall, internet only available in or adjacent to the lobby, weak air conditioning but it worked well enough to handle high 70's to low 80's. We never ate or had a drink at the Hotel because we saw better values at the street cafes in the older parts of Rome across the river, about a twenty minute walk. The Plaza Navrona was a good find with many cafes on the route there and at the Plaza also. We had a good time at the Columbus and would stay there again.

Our stay at Hotel Columbus was changed By the hotel when we arrived: Renovations were being done so we were sent to another hotel nearby for 1 night. We stayed 1 night at Hotel Columbus.See above for ratings. Very uncomfortable beds, and noisy at night.

I decided to stay 1 extra night in Rome and thought this hotel would be a good choice since is close to St. Peter's piazza free wifi don't expect there is no wifi in any room and the hotel staff knows it yet they advertise as true.....have to go to the lobby n work in their computer standing to make some reservations and check in's No air conditioner in the room what it bothers me the most is that the staff knows it !!! Yet they false advertise it...... The only good thing about this hotel is NOT TO. STAY THERE couldn't wait to check out!!! You had been warned !!!

Excellent location as you are just steps from St Peter's and not far from other Rome sights. My biggest complaint is about their unreliable wi-fi which staff had to keep resetting and which the hotel requires you to log into with new and different access codes for each device every 24 hrs. On the last day it failed totally.
