Dirty bathroom. Broken bathroom door, used old bottle waters in small fridge. It’s a converted office space turned into ‘hotel’ too small. Too hot. Staff would walk in while gone to raise ac to save money. Unplugged small dirty fridge where I had my insulin. DO NOT STAY HERE. The pic is of a common entrance and does not reflect this horrible room for rent.

The staff, the person that stays all day in the hotel, was very attentive and very helpful. Thank you. The rooms were clean. Hotel centrally located, in a old building but has a lift which is bonus. Bus stops and train within walking distance. Good value.

Pros: Great location and friendly and helpfull staff. Cons: Poorly cleaned. The room smelled awful, like sweat, same with the bed sheets and covers, also the covers had a lot of stains. The shower was very dirty with a lot of mold on the walls. It was very hard to flush the toilet. The AC didn't work well.

The receptionist was very nice, helpful and sociable. The room is clean, spacious and the beds are comfy. The only problem is all in the bathroom: there was no hot water, the bathroom is not very clean and the bathroom door has no lock.

This is a very small hotel, about 8 rooms that is located in the 3rd floor of an old building. The staff is very friendly, you have breakfast included with freshly baked goods and machine coffee. The location is good, close to the Roma Termini. The only thing I didn't like was the elevator, very small and the door is very inconvenient.

Alius Hotel Good Place to Stay.
After I booked our stay at the Alius I came across some negative comments about the hotel on trip advisor. I was worried, but it turned out not to be true. We stayed for 9 days and the room was clean the bathroom was clean had a nice breakfast. Julie at the front desk was very helpful The location was outstanding, close to train station, metro and bus lines. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are on a budget and want to be in the city center. I would stay here again.

Alius Hotel is pretty basic, but for the price that's exactly what we were expecting. It was clean and well placed to explore the Centro Storico and close enough to the train station to make airport transfers extremely easy. Julia on reception was very welcoming. All in all I'd recommend this hotel as a cost effective way to stay in Rome.

terrible hotel in a good location
We were struggling to find a decently priced hotel in a good location. We had low expectations coming in, but this hotel was just not good. The Good: - hotel is close to the Repubblica Metro that you can take to the Vatican or other sites - within walking distance (a long walk) to other sights such as Trevi or Colosseum - good stores and restaurants close by (if you want a break from Italian we recommend the nearby Mr. Chow) The Bad: - The bed and pillows are awful. Terrible. Atrocious. The bed is an old spring mattress that was so uncomfortable. The pillows were made of rocks. Seriously, a simple pillow upgrade would do wonders. - The shower. The doors kept coming off the tracks and the shower head sprayed in 100 different directions except for on your body. A simple cleaning or upgrade would make it so much better. - The toilet stinks. Has a weird flush system where the tank fills up above the toilet high on the wall and it just stinks and smells like an outhouse. - The street noise. Via Nazionale is loud and our room overlooked it. Rooms are not even slightly soundproof so we could hear everything from everywhere. - No climate control. The room got hot at night and the only way to cool it down would be to open the window to the loud street below. - Overall skuzzy and dirty. The walls had so many scratches and it looked like liquids dripping down them. A quick wash or paint would be much more inviting. Overall: Avoid & look elsewhere for a comfortable stay/sleep

I had a pleasant stay there , although being on a busy street of Rome it is rather noisy even with windows mostly shut and even though it is on third or fourth floor .

Holidaying in Europe
The hotel is really a budget hotel. It is family run and owned by an Indian couple. The breakfast variety is limited and the buns are rather cold and hard as compared to the family run hotel in Florence that we stayed in prior to arriving at the hotel. The towels were not changed on a daily basis. There was even a hole on one of the towels that we used. In addition to that when we arrived at the hotel we were informed that we had booked a room for one person. But there were two of us. So we had to pay an additional 30 Euros for the extra person. I find it a little costly as the room that we reserved was already meant for two persons. Why the high additional cost for the extra person? Besides the centralised location. I don't think there is anything else that is nice about the hotel. The fixtures are damaged and the room is rather run down. It looks more like a bed and breakfast rather than a two-star hotel. If you can afford a little more, I would suggest that people could try out other hotels.

Never even saw the room
The day of check in there were plumbing issues and they sent us in a taxi to another hotel. The lady was very nice but we were fed up. At the end of our three-week holiday we wanted the location, and to be settled without having to move hotels again. They wanted us to spend one night elsewhere then transfer back to Alius, which we did not agree to because it didn't work with our tour schedule. They did accommodate us at the new location for all three nights but that hotel room didn't have a phone for wake-up service and was not even on the same street as the reception desk. Very confusing.

Great location
We had booked a room for three people, however on arrival found that we had a small room with one double bed. The room we had booked (and paid extra for) was not available until the following day which was disappointing but we did move to the larger room the next day and enjoyed the rest of our stay. The hotel is in an excellent location, within walking distance of many sights and is clean and tidy.

Great Location
I enjoyed this hotel. It's not as difficult to find as some would say. I felt safe in the neighborhood. You can walk everywhere. The metro is only 5 blocks away. It was what you need when your traveling and running around all day. Front desk was always there and they serve breakfast. For me it was exactly what i needed. Hassan was great too.

Good location
We were two tourists in our twenties. The good: great location, everything was walkable. Most people at the front desk were nice. It's on a busy street, but the windows blocked out the noise and the black out shades kept the room dark. The bad: we didn't realize there was an elevator for a while and walking up to the 4th floor after walking all day was rough. The shower wasnt great. The bed was very hard, and the breakfast was very basic. Overall for the price and location, it was a clean decent hotel. We booked knowing we were going to be out all day. If they updated the beds a bit I would have given it a better review.

Excellent location but 1* hotel
Very secure - claimed to be accessible at any time Very small elevator hidden to one side of huge lobby shared with other small hotels in large building. The handful of staff include English speakers and one was very helpful, but another one seemed to count every item we took from a very basic continental breakfast (machine dispensed tea & coffee for 50c at other times). No toiletries provided. Small room had en suite bathroom. Satellite TV in Italian only. Suitable for students wanting somewhere to sleep near the historic sites, but we are a mature couple who want more comfort on holiday.

Think carefully before staying here
When we arrived we definitely like the location however we would have rather stayed on the outskirts of town then at this hotel. Our room's bathroom had a moldy/musty smell that made us sick - we could not go into it the first couple of days without covering our face to not gag. We requested to move rooms but they said they did not have one. After the second night during the middle of the night the air conditioning unit leaked water all into my bag. Again we asked if there was anyway for us to move and they said they couldn't move us, although the front desk staff never looked up from thier facebook while talking with us. Our room was facing the common area and all night and the groups that were staying there were very loud and came in pounding on doors and yelling. I am not sure if the rest of the rooms are like this but our room was #4.

Good value in a good location
My husband and I stayed here on an anniversary trip to Italy. The staff was very nice and let us drop our luggage off early when we arrived. The room was ok---nothing special, but clean and sufficient for our needs. The bed was two twins pushed together, which was a little uncomfortable. The continental breakfast provided every morning was good. While it is not very close to most of the major attractions, it is right next to a Metra stop, which makes it very easy to get to other areas of town. Also, the train from the airport arrives about a 1/2 mile from the hotel, which is convenient. There are plenty of good restaurants and shops in the neighborhood.

Horrible hotel
Location and service of the staff was great but the hotel facility was horrible. Hotel is in the 3rd floor of a multi-hotel complex. In the ground floor there's reception area but the lady there is horrible. It was raining so I was waiting for my husband to bring the umbrellas from the room and the lady at the reception insisted I couldnt wait by the door, I had to go up to the 3rd floor by my hotel or stay outside by the street under the rain. She was flat out rude. The hotel room was very small and noisy. The decorations were from the early 80's and to get Internet you had to go to the breakfast area. Breakfast was very limited and you had to cross the breakfast area to get to the rooms. I will NOT be staying here again.

Alius Hotel - great value for money
Alius Hotel was terrific value for money given the price of most Rome accommodation. Located just a 2min walk from a metro station, it was easy to get around Rome. It was also just a 10minute walk to Termani station which made it easy to get to/from the airports. If you are feeling fit then its a 30min walk (up and down a few hills!) to the spanish steps/most tourist attractions. The staff were helpful and the room clean. would recommend this hotel to friends as it was terrific value for money in an expensive city!

Great little hotel in Rome
Alius Hotel is very small and a little hard to find in its building, but it's a great place to stay. Via Nazionale is within walking distance of Termini train station and right in the heart of Rome. The staff is very friendly and helpful - our luggage took 2 days to arrive and they helped us call the airline and spoke to them when we couldn't get anyone who spoke English. There is free wi-fi in the lobby (doesn't reach to the rooms). Our room was small but very clean and comfortable. The only downside is that Via Nazionale is a very busy street and noisy all night. Overall, though, I would recommend Alius Hotel.

Alius - conviniently located
The hotel was a little confusing to find at first but once we found it we really enjoyed the location. It is only a few blocks from the Main Train Station and around a mile from the major attractions (Colosseum, Parthenon). The amenities were adequate, Breakfast was included small but enough. We were able to walk everywhere from the hotel. The staff was pleasant and someone was always available if needed.

This hotel is very basic. It has a great location for visiting the historical sites. If you just want a quiet place to sleep with no amenities, this is it. The main floor elevator is locked. You must go up to the 3rd floor to get the key, or carry your luggage up four flights of stairs.

Good Value -- Comes with a Cost
Our first room smelled strongly of sewer, and the air conditioning leaked all over my bag. The staff acknowledge this problem and blamed the building's plumbing. In the morning we complained and were given a room that smelled fine and had no A/C. This worked fine for us...just take showers to stay cool and sleep with the window open and earplugs. Such is the nature of seeking cheap rooms in Rome!

Great place to stay!!
By Italian standards, this hotel delivers great value. It has a very good location, a private bath, good firm clean beds and is in a safe, secure location but still near the Metro and Roma Termini. Great restaurants and shopping about along the Via Nazionale and its side streets, and its a 15-20 minute walk to the Forum and the Colosseum. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Most of the negative reviews on here seem to criticize it because it's not the Kansas City Hilton (or wherever). Italy is a different country and some conveniences that are standard in the States will cost a relative fortune to line up in Italy. If you want a good, safe, clean hotel with friendly staff, strong espresso and sweet cornettos for breakfast, this is it!!

Hotel Alius
We arrived at the hotel were initially confused because the hotel is located in a building with out hotels/businesses. You need to press the buzzer to be let in if you arrive on the weekend or in the evening. The hotel is located on the 3rd floor of the building so the initial hike up the four flights of stairs to the hotel was kind of a pain. There is an elevator but you don't get the key until you check in. The staff was very friendly during check in. We had a triple room which was spacious and very clean. The room we were in faced via nazionale, a very busy street, so the room was fairly noisy when the windows were open. We are not light sleepers so this didnt bother us but it might bother others. The hotel does have air conditioning but it cannot be controlled by the occupant. The common areas were quite cool but the room was a little stagnant so we ended up keeping the windows open. While this kept the room cool enough in May, we did have to listen to the noise. The hotel location was great. Quick 5 min walk to metro, restaurants, grocery store. 15 min walk to Termini. Hotel had free wifi but it barely reached our room. If we wanted a good signal we had to sit by the door or go sit in the breakfast room. Breakfast was small. Cereal, croissants, juice, milk, coffee. I am not a picky person and thought this hotel was very pleasant compared to a lot of European hotels i have stayed in. I would stay there again and would recommend it to anyone.

It's all about the location, which is excellent if you want to see alot and be in the thick of things. Within 20-30" walking you will see all sorts of incredible historical locations. What can you say about Rome that has not already been said? A truly amazing city, fast paced, be careful of pickpockets and such, but truly a great experience. The hotel and breakfast included were ok and the staff helpful, but the location excellent all the way.

Alius Hotel - It's just awful
Noise at night on street - worse than any ever. Bed mattress must be WW II surplus -your back will kill you. Breakfast: thinnest slice of salami ever. Bathroom: Plumbing smells. Temperature: Too hot and stuffy unless window is open and at night too noisey if window is open. We paid $big per night with Hotels.com and the hotel added a per person per night room tax. Three loong stories up, elevator under lock and key, first time up a killer. I'll sleep in the street before I go back to the Alius.
