The Narobi Transit Hotel is quite nice for the price. The room is simple but clean. I you are American, think "Motel 6." Be aware that it is not near the airport. It is a good 30 minute drive. They can send a driver for USD 20 or KS2500.

Disappointing hotel overnight transit
No free wifi as advertised & shuttle ride round trip should have been $25US - there was no such thing I paid to & from $50US. I paid $73.00 & it was only 55000 Tz shillings - so will not recommend to anyone - it was also around an hour from airport. Unsatisfied customer.

Dear Kris Hamilton, Firstly, my sincere apologies that we did not manage to meet your expectations as stated by your overall experience. We have noted your comments regarding the free WiFi with great concern.Kindly note that the hotel has WiFi access in all rooms,we however do emphasize that this may not have worked during your stay and we will look into resolving any network issues in all the rooms. Please note that the hotels normal charges for a one way trip to or from the airport is $25.We apologise if there was any miscommunication on the total price for the round trip. I do sincerely hope that we can host you in the near future as we strive to improve our service standards from our past experiences. Kind regards, Kenneth Waweru Operations Manager

Probably more of a 2* hotel
The hotel was rated higher, but I thought it was in the 2-star category. Dirty walls in the lobby and hallways, curtains and towels stained in the rooms etc... and small cockroaches in the rooms. The sheets were clean though, and for that I was appreciative. But the hotel needs to be better managed overall and be prepared for some surprises in terms of quality lapses

A hotel near the airport with some activities near it :- Museum excellent. food market good too. It is in a noisy neighborhood and taxi from and to airport is costly. Good view opportunity but only public transport station and street vendors meet the eye.

Dingy and dirty
I read the reviews for this hotel and thought it sounded like the perfect hotel for just one night. I was wrong. We got there and one person in our group had to change rooms 3 times before they found one with clean sheets. Our room had no pillows nor sheets when we got there, that we had to ask for. Shower was dirty so we didn't feel like showering in the morning, plus the night before I had the conditioner stolen from my room whilst we were having dinner. There is a tv but no remote and only one channel was working. Hotel is dirty and not modern at all.
Response from NTH Management on 31 Jan 2015
We are disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay at Nairobi Transit Hotel. We maintain high standards at Nairobi Transit Hotel and we take standards of cleanliness extremely seriously. All rooms (including linen) are cleaned thoroughly before they are made available to guests. Some provisions such as mosquito nets and extra pillows are provided to guests upon request. Thank you for your review and we will look into the issues raised as we continue to improve our services.

Glad it was just one night
Dirty dirty dirty. The hotel is not modern at all and it is dirty and worn down. Our bed had no beddings when we got there and our friend had to change rooms three times before they found a bed with no blood on the sheets. We were a group of 17 and no one had a shower in the morning due to the fact that the showers were rank. Staff is friendly though.

Good for a short stay
The Hotel staff was very helpful to us and we enjoyed our short stay in Nairobi. The Hotel is located a short walk away from the National Museum, a worthwhile place to visit. We asked the front desk about walking there, and they told us it was not safe and arranged for a younger brother to walk with us. He took us to the museum then by bus to the central business district. It was a very pleasant day experiencing the city. Then we took the short walk together from the Central Business District to our hotel. We would recommend this hotel to travelers. Everything was clean. The internet worked well. The restaurant had a good breakfast and dinner.

Not what I expected
The price is good however it is probably so because this hotel is NOT in central Nairobi. It is at least a mile walk to there (minimum 15 minutes with a brisk pace) with the way through a gauntlet /wall of people at most times of the day over a path strewn with litter. The surrounding area too is litter strewn. Staying at this hotel is staying among the local people and if you don't want that you don't want this hotel. (I write that because many who travel want anything but a cultural immersion). There is no obvious or well seen sign at or directing to or announcing the hotel (even though the picture on Expedia showed one). Getting there required my taxi driver to ask for directions several times in the surrounding neighborhood as no one seemed to know of the facility. I write taxi driver because my transfer to the hotel (and arranged by the hotel) did not show up at the airport. After an hour long wait I got a taxi, and that was an event in itself. When I got to the hotel the response after reporting no transfer showed up was, "Well you made it." There really is nothing immediately surrounding the hotel in the way of places to eat. The food at the hotel was at best dinner quality- not that I expected top restaurant quality. Best description of the facility would be a high end hostel where you don't share sleeping quarters. Do not expect more. Overall not a place I'd stay with a visit to Nairobi again, primarily due to location.
Response from NTH Management on 8 Nov 2014
Nairobi Transit Hotel prides itself on providing a clean three star environment for its guests and we are disappointed that you do not feel our services reflect this and that you were unhappy with the location of the Hotel. We host a range of local and international guests and we work hard to meet all of their needs and so we are grateful for your feedback concerning signage and food quality in our restaurant. Whilst we do not advertise ourselves to offer a ‘top’ restaurant, our chefs pride themselves on providing a variety of good flavoursome meals. We want all guests to enjoy their stay with us and as such, we shall consider what improvements we can make in these areas. Finally, we apologise for the poor service you received from our Front Office Receptionists, who are tasked with providing excellent customer service. We have addressed your complaint with the team and provided further training on communication to avoid this happening again.

Response from NTH Management on 12 Jul 2014
We are sorry that you were unsatisfied with certain aspects of the Hotel. We do provide mosquito nets on request and our breakfast is a lot more than toast and butter. We provide self service for hot drinks and toast during breakfast; all other items are available on order as per the norm (at no extra cost) according to your preferences including fruits, juices, cereals as well as a hot cooked breakfast.

I booked this hotel for free in room wifi. The receptionist gave me the password but didn't tell me it wasn't working. So after half an hour of attempting to get online I call reception from my room and she tells them tellse there is no wifi and won't be fixed till next day! So I decide to have a shower. There is no cold water. I am told to press a button on wall? There are 10 buttons I hit them all.. No hot water . I have a cold shower. Room is very basic. TV didn't work and didn't fit In socket on wall. Beds are very uncomfortable and directly outside was a noisy busy street. Breakfast is hard boiled eggs and pancakes and coffee is very bad. Don't bother with this place unless it is an emergency!
Response from NTH Management on 12 Jul 2014
It is unfortunate that you experienced problems with the WIFI and TV connection during your stay at Nairobi Transit Hotel. We have since addressed these problems as well as the lack of communication you received from our Front Office Receptionists. In relation to the other issues you mention, all our rooms have standard hot showers which are operated via a heater switch just outside the bathroom; and we do offer a range of food items during breakfast which are ordered via our waiting staff. We work hard to meet our guests’ needs and listen to and act on your feedback so we do hope you will consider staying with us again in the future.

It is said a Crocodile smiles before it bites you , in this case its a Hotel. The staff are very friendly, but also skilled in the art of padlock picking. To return to your room and find that your bags have been tamped with and searched is not pleasant My advice is don’t stay here if you do make sure your room is not cleaned. The security cameras are an asset but not any use of evidence not followed up. After my bitter and very costly experience. I hope that all booking companies remove this hotel from their sites asap

We sincerely regret this occurrence and apologise for your loss. Whilst this incident is uncommon, we assure you that we do take such matters extremely seriously and we have taken steps to prevent this happening again. Nairobi Transit Hotel does not tolerate theft of any kind and any employee found guilty of misconduct is dealt with accordingly.

One night stay before going to Masai Mara
We stayed at the Nairobi Transit Hotel for one night prior to going to the Masai Mara. It was convenient in location, not far from the airport. The hotel staff was friendly enough. The bedroom was clean, with enough space to store our luggage. The bed and room were comfortable enough. The bathroom was a bit dingy and dirty. There is free wifi, another bonus to this hotel. The breakfast was pretty good - we got eggs and sausage with coffee or tea. You also have the option of ordering pancakes. Our friends left some baggage at the hotel for free to store while at safari. Overall, you get what you pay for and it is a convenient, affordable place to stay if you're spending a short time in Nairobi.

We wanted a cheap hotel for one night which was fairly near to the airport. This hotel met those requirements . We were pleasantly surprised at the standard and cleanliness of this hotel. Also the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would recommend it for a short stopover if you need a good cheap hotel near to the airport. It is also very close to the bus station. The only negatives were no hot water for the washbasin, but the shower was O.K.

This was a great hotel for the price! We were stranded in the area due to an issue at the airport and found this hotel randomly online. It is a smaller hotel but the rooms were perfectly comfortable and very clean! The staff checking us in was extremely helpful and took us to our rooms to make sure everything was good and efficient. They even changed our room for no extra cost when we realized the wifi wasn't strong in our original room. The restaurant on the location was very casual but very good. We missed dinner one night but still was able to get some chapati's and tea from the chef. Overall, the price paid was worth the experience! We stayed at a supposedly 5 star hotel a couple of miles away the previous night and the transit hotel was far nice than that hotel! We were happy with our stay!

Very good hotel close to City
Our first impression when checking in at Nairobi Transit was the friendliness and efficiency of the staff and, in particular, Kevin at Reception. We stayed overnight before our flight to Dubai and found that Nairobi Transit is an attractive option if you are looking for a place to dine in-house and stay the night. The room was spacious, opening out to a balcony on the market side, and clean. Beds are firm and comfortable, and that is our preference, but maybe too firm for others. We requested a mosquito net and one was provided promptly. The location is within easy walking distance to the city centre and we found the surrounding markets fascinating as we have a keen interest in the local produce and shopping habits. Our breakfast consisted of juice, fresh fruit, tea and coffee, toast , and a pick of two other breakfast items. While this was sufficient for us, it may be a bit on the light side for others. Our ride to JKIA took about 40mins in early afternoon traffic, but for anyone who has experienced Nairobi traffic, the travel time to and from JKIA can vary from 45 mins to an hour and a half, if staying at the N Transit. All in all, we found it a very pleasant experience staying at Nairobi Transit, and would certainly stay there again.

Transit hotel is located 10 minute walk from city center and is very easy to reach also if you are moving with your car. The hotel is practically brand new and so all is running fine (not obvious in Kenya). Rooms on the side of Limuru road are a little bit noisier but cooler. Rooms on the side of the market can be very warm due to the sun exposure. The staff is very friendly and can assist and help you for near everything. Safe covered parking in the basement. An excellent option in the upper midrange class for a fair price.
