The good: convenient to walk to things, cafe and pub on property, front desk was nice when they were there, back deck area was really lovely, A/C in room worked well. The bad: bathroom was dirty (shower curtain liner was filthy, hair in tub, floor was sticky), music noise from pub until past midnight, right on the main corner of town so lots of outside noise including everyone who stands around chatting after they leave the pub, no microwave in room, ice machine broken (but they gave us small amounts from the pub when asked).
We didn't hate our time here, we just didn't find our hotel room to be the refuge we hoped. This is a "beach community" where standards are usually different (and much lower), where we've stayed at worse places than this. I don't think there are many options, either, so I would probably return if I wanted to be in lake Cowichan, but with lower expectations
