Basaga is a great relaxing place set in lush gardens, less than 2 km from Kuching waterfront. Don't expect 5 star facilities, but rather a very nice homely and always friendly place. Room was simple, yet spacious and rather pleasant, with standard en-suit. A/C and fan, fridge and TV, all in good working order. The place has a very nice feel to it throughout, used by families and couples alike, typically for holiday stays. Staff are all very friendly which certainly added to the pleasant experience. Breakfast is western style with a dozen cooked options, but a couple more cereal options and more fruit, e.g. cut up pine apple and other tropical fruit would be an improvement. Freshly brewed coffee too please! Dinner menu is a mix of western, pizza & local choices and caters for just about all tastes. Can definitely be recommended. Good range of beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks. Free rides to town twice a day are provided, - otherwise $5 taxi ride any time. There are a number of tours on offer and organised from the hotel. These are run by Brandon and his female friend and are top choices! Both are the friendliest and most honest people you'll ever meet! Really organised, and Brandon is a wealth of knowledge and will go to great lengths to look after your needs. We went on both the mangrove and the orangutang tours and both were very memorable. 7 days in Kuching we'll never forget, and much of this is thanks to the great Basaga experience. Highly recommended!
