Nice location, hotel is falling apart.

Posted 07-Jan-2014
Pros: the location, near to everything in KK City
Cons: Staff should be more friedly, cleaning the rooms, providing hot water, repairing their roof
Location: Kota Kinabalu is a nice town. The Sunday market is great.
Our room didn´t have a window. We were in room 1014, we didn´t have hot water, from our seiling was dropping water and they didn´t change our room even, just gave us a bin.

Good location, room shoddy but clean enough.

I'd book this if you're looking to save a few bucks. For about $40 we had a room with no window, 2 twin beds instead of a double, sink drain was clogged. But we were jet lagged and exhausted so it was good enough to save money for a night but still have our own bathroom that was clean enough.

Great Location .... But not good service

Posted 29-Oct-2013 on Hotels.com
Best Western is great as usual esp the location. Walking distance to the pier. The service was not very good. Internet was not working in the rooms due to some issue and also the printer was not working in the lobby. But, the neighborhood was excellent was lots of eating options around.

Nice hotel, good shopping, close to waterfront

Posted 13-Oct-2013
Pros: Location, tour directors very helpful. Tours run very well.
Cons: More western food @ breakfast, elevators very small
Location: Shopping mall across street, great restaurants nearby
Clean, staff helpful, had problem with tv - fixed immediately, breakfast more asian, but good.

Not great

Posted 08-Oct-2013
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Almost everything.
Location: Not there long enough to find out.
I suppose one get's what one pays for, and it was cheap (GBP 38 / night). Was a late check-in after a night flight (4 a.m. check in), and just somewhere to stay for a few hours sleep. No window in room, and room very small, with bed occupying most of the floor area, with a but with a prison-like feel about the place. Furniture and fittings old and very tatty. For a stay of 5 hours, just about OK, but wouldn't want to have stayed longer.

decent hotel in a dumpy town

Posted 07-Oct-2013
Pros: breakfast, price
Cons: town
Location: it's near the water, but there is no beach within walking distance
We were headed to the Shangrila Rasa Ria resort in KK but thought we would spend one night and one day in town exploring before zipping away to the beach. I wish we had just gone straight to Rasa Ria. The Best Western wasn't a bad hotel, but there was nothing much to do in town except walk around and do a little browsing in shops and street vendors. I was surprised at the junkiness of the town (and coming from where we live and work in China that should say a lot). Don't eat in the Malaysian diner beside the hotel unless you have a good idea of what you're ordering - our meal was pretty disappointing, and we're adventurous eaters. If you have to stay in KK, this hotel will do the trick and the cost is reasonable for what you get. The breakfast buffet had a pretty good selection - and the made-to-order eggs were yummy.

Great location

Posted 12-Sep-2013
Pros: Located one street from the water, it is near money changer, grocery shop, excellent restaurants.
Cons: Internet access very fragile and slow.
Location: Situation is between water and Gaya St, easy access to large shopping malls, Sunday market, Harborside food stalls.
Stayed 2 nights, was upgraded to family room upon arrival as they didn't have a twin room as I requested.
